    Bright, Echo, etc...

You may want to also consider the capitalization and reputation of the clearing firm that the shop uses. I think the real risk is if the clearing firm goes under. If a major catastrophe were to happen within your prop firm, there is nothing in it for the clearing firm to lose the business...

Lowest commission costs (stocks vs. futures)

Looking at the lowest transaction costs comparing r/t costs to tick size - there is, for example.. Stocks: .01/sh. Spread: .01 (1.00) Emini ES: 4.80/rt (IB) Spread: $12.5 (0.384) Bond/Note futures: 4.80/rt (IB) Spread: $31.25 (0.1536) Is this accurate, or does anyone have any...

    A B Watley

Competitive? No. If you are even a halfway decent trader you can do much better at another prop firm, of course you gotta put up the $10k. If you are new - I suppose not having to put up any capital is no risk to you, however with those numbers it is high probability you will end up...

    Fnys?

Showtime - you get a 50% (at most) payout AFTER paying commissions also - and some still NET 6-8 million! Is that what you are saying?

How to scope out where other scalpers are?

When you see them doing this to you, try this.. Put in bids/offers the opposite way you want to trade, then when they jump in front of you - pick them off. You do run a risk of getting hit yourself, but in a slow mkt this can work pretty well.

    income potential

I am also running a business and need to show a profit. If I do not seek out the lowest costs I can find - I am not running my business very well.

    The Sopranos

Katrina - your concerns are misdirected and I think you are just jumping on the bandwagon that seems to want to criticize the show. How proud of yourself you must feel! The Sopranos IS NOT that violent - how many people get killed on there every season - two or three? It only seems more...

Curb your Enthusiasm - best episode

That Sunday night on HBO is too good for just one thread on ET. The Crazy Eyed Killer episode was awesome! Larry on the phone trying to find him - "try killah - with an.. a - h"!! LOL!

    income potential

Alan - I was referring more to prop firms, where you negotiate your "deal" and there is no set-in-stone rate. Retail brokers like MB I think are less flexible and I doubt will deviate from their posted commission rates. About psychology, some (Bright seems to say this alot) propose just...

    income potential

It's really up to you.. You have complete freedom to trade what you want, so I don't think stating an income range is of much value, because it's just throwing meaningless numbers around. You do need low commissions, so DEMAND them from your firm/broker. Don't listen to these guys who tell...

IB telles me to "Be Patient" ?

"Be patient", I got that email too - it must be a form email. I was really pissed when I got it, but looking back on it, it is hilarious! I waited for two months to get the futures permissions after my acct was converted to Universal. I had the U acct number, but no indication of why the...

    Bright Trading

Does the fact that a firm has several hundred traders mean that they have the best traders, or the best salespeople?

    Who's got the best training?

Why should trainers be conpensated? The firm is already being compensated by having an additional trader generating commisions. Firms should share things with you for free. I liked Taleb's book "Fooled by Randomness" and it helped me a great deal, but I'm not going to send him a cut of my...

    Good data vendors with API

I have written systems using Sterling's API (among others) with other quote providers. You simply include both vendors components in your program. You can get best bid/ask quotes from Sterling also, but you use the DDE link as opposed to the ActiveX, which is just for the order entry...

Are all prop firms money sucking, greedy, evil, capitalist pigs?

Prop firm is nothing more than a retail account with additional leverage. For what its worth, listen to actual TRADERS at the firm you are looking at, not owners or employees. This includes office managers - they may trade, but remember - they get paid to sign you up. Most of the prop...

What's the logic of the capital requirement at a prop firm?

I am talking about those that only want to risk other people's money. Guys who are already successful and are making $ every day ARE risking their own money (the money that they earned the day before). I'm talking about the newbie that wants everyone else to take the risk. Doesn't make much...

What's the logic of the capital requirement at a prop firm?

Don is right. Not to mention no Medicare and Soc Security taxes for LLC partners as opposed to employee traders. If you are not willing to put up some $, what does that say about your confidence in your own ability? Dont have the money - come on! Anyone can come up with $10k if you...

    --Scalpers and the ISLD ECN--

I don't trade ETFs so I don't know what strategies this move affects. My guess is that you guys were getting fills outside the BBO in your favor on ISLD? Forget AMEX, savvy traders like the folks here on ET aren't going to trade with them anyway, won't they simply use ARCA? On ARCAs site -...
