    Virus Found /AntiVirus Help Needed

I am not a virus expert, but I have heard that some viruses target virus-detection software, and try to disable it. I use NAV, and I have had no problems with it. It has intercepted at least a dozen emails containing viruses. I don't believe I have ever been infected.

    prop firm dilemma

Reputable prop firms want you to make money so you will stay around. The more commissions you generate, the happier they are -- it's human nature.

Best Questions to Ask @ an Interview

I would ask how they will decide whom to hire. You might be surprised how few hiring managers ever really think about that. It's one of those things they take for granted.

    Toby Crabel

I did some testing with ORB, and my tests indicated that it had a pretty good expectancy. Unfortunately, the drawdowns didn't fit my preferred risk profile. It might work for somebody else.

The best price I have seen is $1400 on eBay. I think that is a bit pricey, since most of the same material is still available in a serials of articles from "Technical Analysis of Stocks & Commodities" [magazine]. I agree with surfer that a lot of the material is dated, though some of the...

    Ordertransfer from Ensign to IB

I use Delphi with IB's TSWAPI, but use Ross Hemingway's socket component (http://www.hhssoftware.com/iabsocketapi/), not ActiveX. I have used ActiveX to access the TC2000 database. Accessing ActiveX in Delphi was a bit daunting at first, because it is not very well documented. It can be done...

    TaxCut Premium Question

The last time I used TaxCut and TurboTax, neither could handle gross purchase amounts over $10m, which would affect most day traders. Does anybody know if these deficiencies has been fixed? Thanks, Richard

Super fast trading - all automatic

The performance is pretty impressive. Do you think it will scale? How big can it get? Do you have to change much to do size? [Richard]

    PS/2 vs. USB mice

USB can sometimes be hard to configure. You may need to load a driver, but that can be hard to do with no mouse support. UGH! My mouse is supposed to work as both PS2 and USB, but I never could get it to work as USB. It's cordless, and it too eats batteries. My next mouse will be rechargeable.

Where have all the futures traders gone?

"Vested interests" is the key. I think demutualization may be a step toward e-trading. As long as the exchanges are owned or controlled by pit traders, e-trading will be handicapped. [Richard]

Where have all the futures traders gone?

The London Commodity Exchange installed terminals for their new electronic trading system, and the pits were empty within a week. The pit traders never returned. [Richard]

Where have all the futures traders gone?

I used to trade commodities actively, but then the state of the art in technology moved on. The thought of picking up the phone to call an order in to my broker is sooooo 19th century. [Richard]

    Trading for pros only

Title 17 (Commodity and Security Exchanges) of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) has all the relevant regs. The last time I looked, 17 CFR was in four volumes. You can buy them from the Government Printing Office, and they're not very expensive. But they are *boring*. It is important...

They sure hate daytraders, don't they?

Sometimes they hate short sellers even more. What do they call a daytrader who sells short -- a "second order moron"? I just tell people I deal crack cocaine to school children. It explains my nice house and car and why I don't go to work in the morning. It also avoids long philosophical...

    Daytrading and Taxes

Like a lot of ET members, I expect to have unintended wash sales with my next return. As I understand it, I have three [viable] alternatives: 1. Do a wash sale adjustment on Sched D 2. Elect MTM accounting under Sec 475 3. Ignore wash sales I think I understand the advantages &...

Super fast trading - all automatic

Very interesting . . I was thinking about looking at that. Have you done any analysis of the tape (i.e. number of trades going off at the bid vs. ask), or intermarket analysis (i.e. ES vs. DAX)? [Richard]

    Licenses and Keeping them active...

According to NASD, you have to be using your license to keep it current. There are broker/dealers who will list you has an affiliate, but that is skirting the intent of the regs. I think you can be self-employed, but I don't know the details. I think it requires a Series 24 license. Check...

    programming question

There has been fair amount of discussion on the independent IB discussion group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TWSAPI/) about the "best" language to use. I believe the best language is the one you are the most skilled in. I have heard a lot of kvetching about Active-X and IB's API. If you...
