    Have the Algo's accomplished this?

With high frequency trading all the rage I have switched to low frequency trading. When high frequency trading is no longer "in" then it will be time to switch back to it.

Dodd-Frank bill seeks to crack down on forex arena

There appears to be an active effort by lawmakers to force derivatives trading volume from off exchange venues to exchange venues such as the CME. As I understand the financial reform bill will force forward contracts onto exchanges, a big giveaway to the exchange lobby. If they are going to...

    Wealth, poverty and compassion

In my experience poor people are the more compassionate. Not all, some on government assistance are not the type you want to hang around. In general though, people who work for a living yet are still poor are some of the nicest and most understanding people on earth. Rich people live in their...

    Bizarre robot traders

IMO the patterns are quote stuffing. Designed to input useless bids and offers away from the market price. No intention to trade here. The intention is to slow down the other HFT systems making markets in these stocks just enough to tip the scales to your algo's advantage.

Some fixed-income analysts are predicting US 10yr yields could fall to 0.995% by Sep

Interesting times we live in. It may be a sideways market in stocks but its a bull market in bonds. IMO it would take a major unexpected corporate default to drive 10 year yields that low that soon, causing a flight to safety out of corporate bonds and stocks.

Think $41,000 Steep For A Chevy Volt? One Dealer Wants $20,000 Premium!

One dealer was offering to sell a nissan GTR for +20K premium in my area. Not sure if you can get them cheaper, but for sure nobody will pay that kind of premium for a volt.

    Our schools and economy system

This is a fairly common viewpoint, which I share about the educational system. I remember throughout much of my grade school education, I'd be lucky to learn a single thing in a whole day. Thus I concluded the ethos of public school education was not so much as to educate as to obfuscate and...

U.S. 2-year yields back to record lows after GDP

Whats the bull spin argument for this? Its feels like 2008&3/4 all over again.

Generation Y, is doomed to unemployment

Gen Y did exactly what all the generations since "the greatest generation" did. They went to school, studied and earned their degrees in a diverse variety of subjects. The only difference is when they graduate the jobs just aren't there. You can't blame them for their own unemployment, not any...

How the rich dodge taxes. And how the SEC shifts attention away from new FOIA scandal

"Many trusts invest their assets conservatively in stocks and bonds. But the Isle of Man trusts took their Wyly money and used it to establish a company in the Cayman Islands that would market offshore annuities to other investors. The result was Scottish Annuity & Life, which was set up and run...

The Herd Instinct Takes Over-Component Stocks' Correlation to S&P 500...

This environment is really a stock picker's worst nightmare. Conversely, it is a good time to be a macro economist index- trader. With so many stocks acting so similar, one would presume quality stock investors, not being rewarded for their discretion, simply stop/reduce their participation.

    More cuts in california!

I applaud the whitehouse for not (as of yet) bailing California out. I have no idea what will happen BUT I hope the experience is enough to end the election of irresponsible "tax and borrow" politicians.

Why the National Debt Can’t Be Paid Off

Greenspan actually got really concerned that the national debt would be paid off during Clinton's presidency. Without national debt there would be no treasuries, which create the "reserves" for the banking system. Luckily in his infinite wisdom, he adverted the "problem" of the debt being paid off.

Deflation followed by hyperinflation is coming.

The structural problem of the US economy is its all geared towards short term profits and not long term gains. Globalization is the culprit, along a culture climax of materialism and "success" worship. I agree with the premise that there will be deflation followed by hyperinflation; which is...

    Only in California

Only in California would there be a serious initiative to legalize marijuana. Intrade has been pricing the odds of legalization lower in recent weeks. Perhaps Californians have a limit to their tolerance? http://www.intrade.com/jsp/intrade/contractSearch/index.jsp?query=marijuana#

    BP----They are gonnna NUKE IT!!

Could the new leak be sprung from the increased pressures created underground by capping the horizon leak? I am not a geologist but this is serious cause for concern. If the new leak isn't from an old poorly sealed well, it will be impossible to stop. Seal one leak create another? Things aren't...

    The reasoin for today's rally?

That article really doesn't say much. I know many market participants are expecting the fed to come out and announce the next big round of support. I'm not sure such a move would really support equities for very long; as it would undermine confidence about the "fed sponsored" recovery. Still...

This really is starting to feel like 1932

You make good points. Before the later days of the industrial revolution, punishment for crimes was much more severe, "barbaric" and much less expensive. There simply wasn't any surplus wealth to house prisoners for great lengths of time. Now with so much "wealth" generated by industrial...
