    Based on what you have said I would say do not even think about trading. It is one of the hardest things to do and well over 90% of all those who ever try end up losing money. First thing you have to do is spend a couple of years leaning the market while trading very lightly.

    This is the response I got from IGIndex when I asked if I would have made money from the spike. "Dear Sir, Thank you for your email. If you have rollover set up then your position of Feb Contract will be closed at expiry with its closing price and then your position for the March...

    This is strange - The spread betting companies have rolled over the contract as normal on the 3rd Friday but the actual FEB contract does not expire till the 20/01. Did the spread betting companies get in wrong?

    It should change tomorrow (3rd friday of the month) I believe your spread betting company would have closed your position anyway Spanish so you would not have got the spike up. There is no way they would let you profit from this as they would not be able to hedge thier loss with futures...

    The contract just rolled over it seems. IG Index is now alligned to the MAR contract. Didn't think it happened until tomorrow but I guess it rolled over when the pit closed at 19.30.;

    Spanish, I think your biggest problem is you're under-capitalised. This loan may help but it would increase the pressure. You are under an extra-ordinary amount of pressure for your trades to work ; you should focus on reducing this. Why don't you reduce your size and look to make £200...

    I missed this spike despite a valid half-position set-up. I pulled a sickie today and was hoping for a great trading day but its been very mixed. What short the break out of the Dow but covered to early for a £400 gain when it would have been sitting at £1500 now. Oil, I was too...

    How many winner/losers? What's your position sizing now? You were using 5-10% at one stage I seem to remember?

    I know you're half joking but be careful with viewing the market as an opponent. You are nothing to the market - a grain of sand in a desert. You trade an amount equivalent to 2 contracts out of 300-600k per day. You should not be thinking in terms of fighting or competing with the market -...

    Nice record. You are absolutely right about the risk/reward point - it does not matter if you have a high risk/reward ratio if the the hit rate is so high, you still have an edge. How does your system work?

    "And even if we missed out on money that you could ahve made if you had taken more risks, just think that imagine the guys who were on the other end of our trades!! hehe they all wokeup today, sat at their screens did a whole day of work, and yet have lost over £1,000 and have nothing to...

    Well I missed the move completely! It reversed at a key level and met all my entry critera for a valid set-up and I was not at my desk so completely missed it. :( Would have been circa £1500. So for the first time this week I made nothing. There is always tomorrow.

    I'll exit on a clear reversal at a significant level. My initial target was already reached and a stop is placed at that level.

    I had a mixed day on oil. One short set-up and worked well for a £600 gain. I then shorted which eventually failed for a £230 loss. I had a EURO/USD short trigger which worked well - up £750 so far. Also had some more downside on my bond shorts which I eventually covered for another...

    Yes - I have stops set about $1200 above the current level. Monday morning is going to be interesting to say the least.
