    Making trades using Gamma imbalance

thanks for sharing! really interesting! would this strategy work for any share making a 5 standard deviation move? or is it only when an entire index makes the big move up/down.

    Dow Futures down 500.

who's buying the dip today? i figure this is a minor correction before we head higher, but I've moved 30% to cash in case this is the start of a larger downturn and have a small short position on Disney.

The myth of letting your winners run

I'm also struggling with the 'letting winners run' philosophy. In February, I was fortunate enough to sell several large positions and buy a few put-options. I was buying hand-over-first in March-April. The question now is, what to do with the winners? As an example, I bought V at $150 (imo, an...

    USO options

if you're implying my USO calls could somehow result in me needing to take delivery of oil you're sorely mistaken. Being long USO calls (as part of an option strategy) is not the same as holding WTI future contracts until expiration. That being said, it is pretty funny seeing posts, "how do I...

    USO options

Thanks for the feedback! I have the Jan 15'21 $3 Call (part of a strangle - already closed my Oct Puts). I decided to keep the calls in case there's some kind of opec/government intervention and the price of oil rapidly recovers. I'm not feeling much time pressure.

    USO options

thanks for posting. if i understand correctly, options on original USO should be made whole once "the cash in lieu of fractional USO Shares is determined." i'll wait til middle of next week before i contact IB on this issue.

    USO options

i can also see USO options on IB, but i have a different issue: i can't sell my existing options with the following message: "basket derivs restricted". any idea how to resolve this?

Is UGA a good vehicle to bet on gasoline price recovery?

and 3 weeks from now laurie will post, " how to accept delivery of 10K gallons of gasoline? ". keep it simple - buy and hold oil and gas companies - RDS, XOM, COP, BP, etc, etc, etc

    Who were your teachers/mentors?

Trial and error and forums. My best investments have been companies I find on my own from mid-cap indexes (to name a few; Vitrolife, Resmed, Sartorius, Isra Vision, Vonovia). It's a simple strategy but requires a bit of work: look at the companies in any given mid-cap index from any country...

    USO price question?

USO can be liquidated. i would expect a reverse-split first, but who knows. it's holding June futures (and also July?). It seems to me that if oil stays under $20 USO will continue to drop regardless short-lived rallies.

when does WTI May'20 expire? Can we get paid to buy it???

    "Straddle" on USO

thanks all for the feedback! i'll take a short (albeit Pyrrhic - feeling bad for the oil workers at $4 - now $1.30!!! oh shit!!! oil - did not see this coming!) victory lap here - the USO put is up 50% today and remarkably the call is up 2.3% (must be due to the increase in volatility).

What is the point of Options?

i really don't have the time to explain every nuance of options - do some research. long story short, generally speaking buying a call gives you the right to buy 100 shares at a given price (e.g., if you buy the $700 TSLA call for Oct 2020 and TSLA goes to $900 your call will be worth $200 x...

What is the point of Options?

i have an account with interactive brokers and when the markets are open you have access to a huge number of options - usually as far into the future as 2022 and with many different strikes. another reason to trade options is the built-in leverage. a typical call/put option gives you the right...

What is the point of Options?

using TSLA as an example, when it was trading at around $700 a few months ago, I believed that it was in bubble territory. To outright short it requires a margin trading account and when it went to $900 I would have likely been liquidated. What I actually did is buy Sept 2020 $500 puts. Tesla...

    "Straddle" on USO

Seems to me to be a no-brainer. USO is either going to 0 or heading back up. Straddled by buying an Oct 2020 put and buying a January 2022 call (less then 1$ each). Thoughts?

Need help because I suck: "Turtle" Principles for Options?

ouch - my recommendation, stop trading options and invest in equities instead. buy boring companies with strong balance sheets and sleep well at night.
