good info on the greenshoe. If I understand this correctly the firm has a free trade on that is used to "support" the IPO. If the prices goes straight up (doubtful in any ipo), they can exercise and b/e on the trade due to greenshoe. IF the stock falls they can close out their 15% short...

Most of the time the ES is in a tight range. Are you trying to trade breakouts? If so, the ES only breaksout like 25% of the time. The ES is slow and thick, your up against all the algos/bots. Take a look at gold and crude, they move more and are better to trade imo

The es is thick you may get no fill if it doesn't hit your level.

It also has to do with time of day. Typically you can catch some nice trends in the am, but with more volatility, news releases for example. From 11-230 ish a range trade tends to work better. From 230 to close there will usually be a trend move at some point.

Take a look at the SH 1x short SP's. I would stay away from the levered ones, they don't track well. Also when the VIX is low sub 17 look at buy puts on the SPY or some similar high volume index. Also the TLT is a decent hedge b/c there will be a flight to quality in times of market volatility.
