Most of the most successful traders seem to trade futures which include commodities. I think the advantages of futures (low tax rates, mark-to-market trading) make it attractive to these traders.

You're comparing apples to oranges. If you make a bet, nobody is forcing you to do it. Market makers are obligated to be the counterparty. So like Deadwood said market makers need to be able to hedge so that they can control risk.

Stocks never go up or down continuously. One day can not be used to validate that something is or isn't working.

Take my words with a grain of salt, but I think traders are betting that the Fed will be raising interest rates in their next meeting.

None of them are affected because all of them are based on swaps. I expect these ETFs to get bigger as time goes on.

If I wanted to buy an investment such as a credit default swap, where would I need to go? :confused: You hear about these things all the time but are they even available to retail traders...

I read in a book sometime ago that certain industries/sectors start to rally at different points in an economic cycle. For example, the book stated that financials tend to rally at the end of an economic cycle. As we can see, financials rallied throughout most of the end of 2006 and early 2007...
