    Self-directed IRA accounts

It sounds really risky but that of course depends on leverage. Trading one e-mini S&P 500 future in a $100K account is less risky than putting all $100K into SPY. That said you can best most people are not this conservative with the trading.

    Roth IRA Conversion at IB

On this page: http://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/general/education/faqs/ira.php#11 It says: This leads me to believe they will not do the conversion, otherwise they would say you can transfer the account and then do the conversion.

    Roth IRA Conversion at IB

Can anyone suggest the best way to convert my traditional IRA (held at IB) to a Roth ira (I already have a Roth IRA held at IB I'd like to merge the rollover into). I know IB won't do it although I keep hoping they'll support this. I'm assuming I need to do an ACAT to another broker such as...

    Self-directed IRA accounts

The problem for me is losing use of the funds while they are being converted. I wonder if IB would just move the funds over to my Roth IRA account with them? I doubt it I'm sure there's paperwork involved in the conversion. Just FYI I know Equity Trust will work with OEC, I tried that...

    Self-directed IRA accounts

You're correct it was just like opening a regular account. However I do not think IB will handle a roth ira conversion, so I'm still figuring out how I'll do that in 2010.....

    Self-directed IRA accounts

Not true, I trade Euro and GBP futures in my IRA at IB. You just need to have the currency in your account before you open the trades (just enter a forex trade to buy the currency you need). You cannot short sell stocks (futures are OK) and you cannot use margin, there is NO way you are...

    IB's TWS: 64-bit Compatible?

In task manager, does the TWS process (javaw.exe) have a *32 next to it? That's how you can tell if a process is running as 32 bit or 64 bit.

    Looking for a VPS

I'm impressed if their VPS solutions are stable enough for trading, but their VPS servers are less powerful and $10 less than the dedicated server I'm renting.

    Looking for a VPS

So far I have not found a powerful enough VPS that is stable enough for trading. So I use a dedicated server instead. I have one from sago networks, www.sagonet.com, but there are plenty of decent choices out there.

Errors when query historical data (twsapi)

Can you get those charts in TWS? If not then the server is probably having "issues".

    Deducting trading expenses?

Check out Bob Green's site, he's is THE authority on this stuff. He's not cheap though, although you get what you pay for. Edit: Forgot the link: http://www.greencompany.com

    Historical options data ...

IB provides it but it's only on currently active (e.g. unexpired) options. They provide bid/ask data though that can be HUGE when you're looking at thinly trader options. You can export data from IB using jtwsdump or ibcollector (and maybe others?), or you can also roll your own export...

IB TWS: A tragedy in the making?

IB, any chance you could update the release notes in such as a way that you have the ability to see all notes since a specific version? For example I am using 890.6 and let's say I want to upgrade to 898. Could I run a query via your website to show me all release notes for versions greater...

    CL is wild :-(

Oil rolls over every month so you need to stay on top of things. The roll is usually mid-month, you can watch volume on the next contract and see when the volume rolls over. Make sure you roll in time unless you plan to take delivery (not a problem with IB as they will close it out for you if...

    CL is wild :-(

Note at 4:30 PM on Tuesday (unless Monday is a holiday then it's Wed) they release some other oil inventory report (can't remember the name, too lazy to look). This can also move the market though not as much as today's report. I read awhile ago they are 75% correlated for what that's worth.
