college is a waste of money

It is my friend who is a doctor not me. I have an accounting degree although, not a CPA. The long hours after a while, I did not want to do accounting work. Just do taxes nowadays.

college is a waste of money

Take this real life experience I wanted to share with you. I had two friends who wanted to learn about trading and so, I started to teach both of them for free, of course. Now, I learned to trade on my own and made multiple, costly mistakes, attended seminars, but, did not have a mentor. So...

college is a waste of money

There is some luck involved too. It must be a field you are interested in. I believe I saw this on You Tube about the story of a young woman, around 25 years of age who decided to sell cosmetics at Amazon for some pocket monies. She did not expect it to take off. Anyway, by the time she put up...

college is a waste of money

I do have a college degree in Accounting and have a year of units in my masters. Looking back, I see I would have been better off trying to start a business, much, much earlier. I am now 60 but, going in a different route. How, I wish I could bring back 20-30 years of my life. Robert Kiyosaki...

college is a waste of money

Granted that not everyone can be a business owner and some have to be an employee, it is better to seek other opportunities and multiple income streams. I grew up thinking that studying hard and getting a good job is the goal. Atleast, that is why my grandfather and mother told me. Looking back...

New to trading - Got a bunch of books. Scared to learn outdated things.

There are lots of charlatans out there. Be careful of promises to make you a millionaire without even showing you any trade setups? A lot of seminars out there in hotels are conducted by salesmen! They are trying to sell you seminars costing $3,000 or more for a few days and you are supposed to...

college is a waste of money

For one thing, a lot of students in our schools nowadays have not passed the grades they are in and are deficient in skills be it math, english, science at the higher grade levels their teachers put them in! Their reasoning being, let the student be the problem of someone else! That is why kids...

Any studies on who normally wins - option writer versus purchaser?

Having traded options being the buyer most times, I would guess some sellers have lost their shirts a number of times. Sure, the trade win rate for me varies from around 40%-60% most times over hundreds of trades but, the returns are much, much higher like 40%, 70%, 150% of capital. They claim...

    Markets only trend............

It depends on the time frame. That said, if you look at the longer term time frame, chances are good, most stocks are either trending up or trending down. During that time frame, for shorter durations, it could be stuck to a trading range before it breaks out higher or lower.

college is a waste of money

Most college degrees nowadays are useless. I remember a couple of my communist professors in College were telling me the US was evil. Except, those idiots were holding US passports? It ends their credibility when they are that stupid! Even now, socialists, communists, islamists in the Federal...

    STOPLIMIT ORDER in Thinkorswim

I think you got it right. As for STD I believe means standard, Bid is the Bid Amount being equal to the Stop, Mark is the amount between the Bid and Asked prices and would trigger your Stop when the Mark amount is equal to your Stop.

Why do people pay for trading courses/training?

Let me say, learning on your own is hard work. That said, I find it incredulous that there are snake oil salesmen out there promising to teach you how to trade when they themselves do not trade! How can you teach something you know nothing about? I taught myself everything I know from reading...

Half way through life and not close to being consistent

Gamblingman…...The line of least resistance is to just follow the trend. I too hope to become a profitable trader. I have adopted strict risk controls and try to limit my trades to 2% of my account. In addition, I try to trade only with the trend. Last year, I lost $246 and this year am down...

    My Trend Following System

Just my 2 cents. Trading is more or less an educated guess. However, the stock charts  will give you a clue of where a stock is headed be it, up, down or sideways. On the plus side, you do not have to get 50% winners. What matters is the size of your winners compared to the size of your losers...

    From $10,000 to $100,000 in 6 months.

GruTrader, Thank you for sharing your trades. I hope to learn and pick something out of it as an aspiring full time trader. My goal is of course, to make a living out of trading the stockmarket.:)

What was the ***last*** thing you had to master before becoming profitable?

Have just started pyramiding my winning trades and I realized that I probably would have done much, much better trading wise if I just piled on the winning trades? Losers will still be there but, I have not been doing any pyramiding before and I now see how pyramiding can dramatically...

    What are your Trading Breakthroughs?

For me, controlling losses or risk control is paramount! That is so true. Last year, 2013 I lost $246 which was pretty good for one whole year of trading. Previous years, I would lose a couple of thousand. This year, 2014 I started out with $500 gain, got into some bad trades along the way was...

    Trading for a living....full time....only income

I still aspire to someday be able to make a living out of the stockmarket. Not quite there yet. I have managed to control my losses and I think that is one of the keys to successful trading. Trade selection probably is another thing I need to work on. My goals are modest. Just to be able to...

I am getting my butt handed to me on a daily basis!

It seems to me that you are overtrading. I am guilty of that at times. One valuable thing I learned and the most important in my opinion is you have to control your losses! You have no control over any stock on whether it will go up, down or sideways but, you have control over your trades! I am...
