No Liquidity in today's Forex's Markets

After reading some of your posts, it seems you trade on institutional platforms. I always wondered, when people talk about liquidity in FX, how much is deemed "plenty" or "vast" liquidity on such platforms (in terms of size at best bid/offer)? What was it like 5 years ago? Regards, P

    Which Forex Brokerage Firm?

Its 0.2 pips per transaction, that doesnt always equate to $2 for 100.000 units, i.e. USD/JPY will be differnet. But its a really cheap commission anyways. In comparison, MB charges $5 per 100k *USD* traded. For example GBP/USD is at 2.0150, you pay for 100k units $10.08. Thats more than...

    Is MBTrading In Trouble?

How can they "take over" your computer exactly? P.S. MB is around since like 10 years, why should they be in trouble right now and/or be in more trouble than the last 10 years? Your pdf just shows they are in compliance with NFA/CFTC requirements.

how can hotspotfx pays this rate?

It says it is payed monthly, not that this is a monthly rate. 2.25% per month, 12 compounding-steps would result in a yield of about 34% p.a. Im sure they dont mean that:)

25-30% yearly profits, reallistic in Forex?

So 50-60% each month amounts to about 3% each day. Assume 250 trading days per year, with daily compounding, he must have well over 78 mio. in his account. With a system found on investopedia.

    class action against FXCM

And who decides what the "true" price is? The marketmaker, as per your agreement with him. I guess the only one makeing money of this lawsuit will be your lawer. Anyways, keep posting your progress, i find that interesting. Any timeframe on when a decision is to be expected?

is spot fx better then future fx?

Just remember that that the futures only trade 23 hours, whereas the underlying spot market trades 24 hours. If you plan on haveing o/n positions frequently, this imposes a significant risk.

    Going Automated

How would you determine, if a model can break down at any moment in the future? We all dont know the future, so.. Why do you think pattern based models do just that? Is this some sort of theoretical reasoning, or the results of the patterns you tested?

    Going Automated

Hi, im considering this too, but im still only thinking about it. Here are some thoughts: Its probably better to design it so, that multiple strategies can run simulatnously, so that you dont have to rewrite the whole thing of you want to add another strategy. With the limited...

How to hedge currency risk as a retail?

If your primary concern is safety of funds, some banks offer retail FX platforms too, for example ABN Amro(i think they dont take american customers tho) or Deutsche. Keep in mind that AUD/USD shorts have negative cost of carry.

Is the SPIC insurance somehow capped at a total amount they will pay out? Can SIPC stay solvent if an institution the size of IB will go under?

    Forex Signals Services..Vote

You forgot to add the following option to your poll: "I dont believe in signal sellers, i think they are 99.9% scams, and i believe 1st-posters on message-boards who mention specific signalsellers are spammers. Those who can, do, those who cant, sell signals".

    forex vs the ym

You want to switch instuments because of technical problems with your trading-platform? I think thats not the best approach.. The USD/JPY is somewhat correlated to indices because of the carry-trade. But in general, i would say FX is different from indices. Indices got an upward-bias, FX...

What is up with these SUB Penny's?

Marketmakers who aggregate their own quotes out of multiple sources are of course more flexible than exchanges that have standardized contracts (minimum ticksize as in the contract specification). For example on Barclays Barx platform you can often trade the eur/usd with a 0.7 pip spread (all in).

    Vanilla Option brokers

Well, its one of the few ways for retail traders to access FX options, as such i thought it was worth mentioning. FX options are not as accessible for small traders as other markets, the bulk of the volume trades OTC and much is still dealt via telephone.

FOREX - Lowets vol in years

There was a comment on euromoney that a factor contributing to the low vol is the growing volume of algo-trading systems in FX, many of which are based on mean reversion approaches.
