Blew up 2 accounts: Need input

I don't thinks it's "losing interest" as much as the very same leverage that lets you get 1000% return in 4 months is the same leverage that will wipe you out when a string of losing trades comes along.. That sort of return alone screams "over leverage" and poor risk management. For some...

Blew up 2 accounts: Need input

Look at those years on a 10 yr chart of the index's :) There's no marketable system here.. just buying SPY calls with every penny in ones account would have made one a fortune very quickly - no edge/strategy/exits/stops/risk management required. Follwed by the inevitable blow-up... I have been...

    Example Trading System

Sid- Do you feel comfortable trading a system with a "don't trade on thursday" rule? I'd revisit it some, unless you can think of a way to substantiate it, as it seems only an excercise in curve fitting could have even come up with it. I'm not dismissing it, but it begs for some further...

    First lesson (Noob)

GREAT POINT! it seems nobody I talk to seems takes this into consideration. Everybody's seen "hanging" prices before, were you see a frozen bid or ask that's no longer where the market really is at. And how about the odd "execution" that pops up on the data feed that's no where near the...

Have the skills, but lost and all alone.

Don't get bogged down on any fancy GUI stuff if you're wanting to automate a mechanical strategy. As many will point out, finding and validating your edge will take every ounce of effort you have, you definately don't want to waste time on coding frills. The code could care less if there's any...

IB: Testing a System with Real Time Data

Here's how I handle this (using Java and IB): I have a seperate "sub-system" coded for submitting orders triggered by my system. This "execution manager" can either pass the orders to the IB API for real, or just simulate the fills based on the bid/ask (commonly referred to as "stubbed out").

Finding programmers for Grey or Black Boxes

I've been working in software development for many years, including sr management with a large international consulting firm with extensive India based development centers. My last employer had about 3k developers in India, and many of our executive officers were Indian. They NEVER were able...
