    Nmss

NMSS looks like it's held up pretty well recently. It's trending up by the 50/200 definition. Hey, it just occured to me: don't all of the triangles in learned textbooks break out on the top in uptrends? :p Think NMSS would be interesting if it took out those two hits at 9.00? Anybody...

    Reuters - Excel

Greetings All, Can anyone point me to information on how to track stocks in MS Excel? I subscribe to Reuters data and use Metastock 8.0. Example: After identifying XYZ as a stock where I want to be long anywhere above, say, 8.00 -- or determining that ABC would no longer interest me...

    Pullback Entry Strategy

Hi Salzburg, I read your other posts and you say you cut your teeth in futures if Im not mistaken. It never hurts to clarify things right up front, Tonkicat. I cut my teeth studying futures. But I found that a larger universe of tradables at the end of every day gave me more material...

    Pullback Entry Strategy

I think that might work. If one can identify a strong trend -- that's always the question -- then I think that the odds are stacked in favor of a volatility contraction resolving itself in the direction of the overall move.

PATTERNS -- So These REALLY Work???

Thanks, inandlong, I had a hunch that's where you might be coming from -- the low hisvol environment, that is. When those ratios (6/100, or 7/90, whatever) fall below .6 things are getting pretty quiet!! It's a good time for delta neutral strategies and stuff as I recall -- but it’s been a...

PATTERNS -- So These REALLY Work???

inandlong, You described your scan as "NR7/ID's with a low near term historical volatility." Does that mean you additionally require the NR7/ID to set up against a backdrop of low hisvol? In other words, is low hisvol a third component of your scan? If so, what are you using to determine low...

Value Line -- anybody have a list of ticker symbols?

I'd like to get my hands on a current list of the 1700(?)large cap Value Line tickers. Would anybody be willing to e-mail me a copy, in virtually any word-processable form? . . . or would you know of some other source?

    Papertrading a portfolio of stocks

How do you pick the stocks that make part of your portfolio, meaning which stocks do you follow on a regular basis? Victor, Hope you won't mind if I jump on you wagon here. I have similar questions, but I'm at an earlier stage of the game. I've developed a few trading ideas and would...

    Stone Kettle Soup Project: Revisited

I'm pretty much a newbie at all this, so at the risk of suggesting something you may already know: have you ever checked out Chuck LeBeau's stuff? Here's a link: http://traderclub.com/cgi-bin/discus/show.cgi?107/107, or just try http://traderclub.com/ and click your way to "bulletins." This...

PATTERNS -- So These REALLY Work???

Hey Salzburg. Actually, I am to the point that I use Fibonacci Retracements and Extensions for my EXITS. For entry, I use trendline breaks and MA's. I learned the intricacies of this technique from another trader on these boards - Kernan, whom I believe has it in his signature line. Kernan ...

PATTERNS -- So These REALLY Work???

I prefer to use simple Fibonacci retracements and extensions, in conjunction with a few other indicators. Right. My hunch would be that confirmation of, say, a Fib. extension by an indicator of some kind might increase the likelihood of pulling off a successful trade -- or at least a scratch...

PATTERNS -- So These REALLY Work???

al c. -- and all, of course. After reading this thread I thought you might not be terribly bent out of shape if I asked you for advice on buying a Pesavento book. Currently, I own "Fibonacci Ratios with Pattern Recognition," and I have my eye on his "Profitable Patterns for Stock Trading." Do...

    Early exits are killing me.

Thanks for going another round with me, Breakout. My thoughts are, that not every trade is going to the moon or down the sewer. If I risk $100 and the market gives me $300 back, I take it and look for another trade. I understand. I think that wanting to have my cake and eat it too is due...

    Early exits are killing me.

Thanks for your reply. So it sounds like 3:1 in a trend-following context is a real possibility. That's going to be helpful as I move forward because I'll know I'm still on the right track even if I run into 6 losers in a row. But if you don't mind, let me raise another question. My...
