    Bright trading and any thoughts

Think your math is a little flawed there my friend. From where I sit you're paying .01 for 800 shrs and .01 for 1000 shrs. Sounds like double to me.

The 1000 shrs is in reference to bright's rate. First 1000 shrs is 1 cps I believe. This number scales down to .4cps based on volume.

    Bright trading and any thoughts

I realize use of capital is worth something but these rates are absurd. Your "best" rate of .004 is still more than IB's base unbundled rate. And it pretty much makes trading <1000 shrs too expensive to do. Not trying to be a basher here as I think Bright is a standup firm. Just calling it as I...

Horrible experience:IB cost me $50,000 this morning

Nice idea. I haven't gotten that fancy. But I do maintain a basic template for each platform.

Horrible experience:IB cost me $50,000 this morning

100% stocks in both cases. And yes, one of them has historically done most of his volume at IB. Both are somewhat active posters on ET. That's all I'm comfortable saying. I'm not trying to bring attention on them, but rather expose the complete fallacy that you can't make money trading retail...

    Opening Orders - 2008

In the 35 minutes before the open, the ES had a 9 point range. I'd consider that volatile. Heck, it wasn't that long ago there were entire days that didn't have 9 point ranges. But beyond that, it was an expiration with the VIX at relatively high levels and a huge amount of volatility in the...

Horrible experience:IB cost me $50,000 this morning

I trade prop and retail (IB) using fully auto programs. I see no advantage to prop from an execution or automation point of view. In fact I see several advantages to IB including the fact that they support complex order types that allow me to push some decision making off onto IB's servers. My...

    Opening Orders - 2008

It was futures and options expiration and the futures were pretty volatile before the open. I had a large number of fills Thursday vs a normal day, but not particularly large number for an expiration. I'd chalk it up to expiration. Hope all those fills worked out for you. EDIT-> Also there...

    pro's and con's of series 7

If you have basic market knowledge, it's not that hard at all. You only need to memorize the municipal bond and regulatory stuff. So based on my above paragraph, if you have basic market knowledge it has zero usefulness in further preparing you as a trader. I studied for less than 2 weeks...

Today was rollover, Index arb was correct. ProgramTrading still has yesterday's value. As of today, you should be using the June contract. Never heard of it.

I second lescor's comment. You are far better off forward testing on small size and tweaking as you go. News pretty makes automated backtesting very difficult.

I send my orders in Sterling via the API. Not sure if you can send via baskets or DDE.

You call 5-8% margin rates nothing? It's clear you are the expert so I'll sign off now.

Those massive writeoffs weren't due to their brokerage business - period. I think you ought to keep the conversation on the prop/LLC model. There's other sources of profits at a mainstream brokerage like internalization that aren't part of the prop model and make this an apples/oranges comparison.

I don't believe ETFC's problems are related to their brokerage. It was their mortgage division.

    what should i be paying?

Ummm...that's 2M shrs / month. There's plenty of people who do 1M+ shrs / day. Some of us get more than 5 signals /day, ya know. :D

    Opening Orders - 2008

As Lescor likes to say, getting in is the easy part. You gotta know how to trade to get the exits right. Best to just watch and see what works for you. Review each trade and see when the best exit point was. Gather some stats and maybe you'll see a strategy that works. And yes, BBY had...
