IB "Sweep to Fill" order type

Is anyone familar with the "Sweep to Fill" order type? It's described as scanning for the best price and executing on it, but how is that different from a Market Order? There must be some type of difference, its actually looks on the helpguide like a limit order. Thanks in advance for any help

    Always losing on the spread

Try as I may, I always seem to end up getting the bad end of the deal on the spread. Why is this and what can be done about it? Is it because of some type of smart order type that other traders have on, or a HFT phenomena. Thanks in advance for any help.

    Ib Api

I am looking for a decent API to automate trading on the TWS. Some years ago, I looked at the Excel DDE API they had and it was not so great nor reliable. On the other hand, the simplicity was good and I am not looking for something 'state of the art'. Speed is not crucial to me, if the Excel...

    Inflation & the Property Market

Assuming this burst in commodity prices brings on a rise in inflation, then whats the likely consequence for the property market? Is it fair to suggest that interest rates will rise, therefore property values will fall, as people can't afford the mortages. Or, are property prices at rock...

    currency futures vs forex

Sure. The commission seems very tiny compared to the interest bill that forex brokers take. Like say they take 0.5% interest, 0.25% each way, then on 100k contract over a year, thats $500. $500 is alot of futures commissions

    currency futures vs forex

Hi, How do currency futures work to the advantage of the broker? On forex, the brokers make a spread on the interest each way, so they gain alot. Does this infer that currency futures are better value for the trader or am I missing something here? Thanks for any help.

    advice on a stable investment

Hi I'm looking for some type of super stable, liquid, long only investment, (not T bonds) ideally the annual yield is greater than the volatility. Stability is more important than yield. To achieve the stability I'd prefer an arb strategy, but I want long only. Any advice please?

what does "Gross Position Value" mean?

Hi, What does the term "Gross Position Value" actually mean? Its quoted by IB as: "Long Stock Value + Short Stock Value + Long Option Value + Short Option Value + Fund Value" I can do maths, but am not an accountant. So, to use maths terms, does that mean the absolute value of the Long...

    IB Advisor Accounts

Is this feasible for most people? Or do you need financial qualifications. I guess complex is compliance, does it need a seperate expert? If it were incorporated and a good track record emerged, would access to institutional levels of funding be availble thru 3rd parties, or is it still a...

    IB Advisor Accounts

Hi, Is it possible to have some type of setup where Jill trades the TWS and Jack puts the money in and out but can not see what Jill is trading? In other words, for investors to have the security of knowing it is their own account and only they can withdraw funds, but the trader has privacy and...

    mechanics of shorting

A question: When shorting stocks, its possible to get a broker notice saying they can not find the stocks and there can be a 'buy in'. This can come out of the blue, even long after conducting the short trade. Does this infer that the stocks are 'rolled over' or something every few days, and...

    Sovereign ETFs

I believe ishares offer a number of EFTs, from memory they include italy and spain, but the volume is low on such nations and a hefty spread. Otherwise, to trade on european exchanges offer more options, but again with low volume. You'd be best to trade the italys SPMIB and spains ibex on the...

Investing in the rise of BRIC nations

Everyday in everyway theres an incessant torrent of news about the rise of these BRIC nations not just economically but in influence and political clout.
