    Is depth accurate?

Twice today I have put in orders at a price that shows 400 or so ES cts are in front of me. After well more than 500 trade at that price, I am still not filled and then market goes back the other direction. This has been occurring more and more often, and leads me to ask how accurate is that...

    Best Platform to trade Eminis

No one offers more than 5 levels. Most execution platforms include it in the package. IB is free.

i looked into my screens and cried

I'm pretty sure those were NQ points unless he switched over, so that makes a bit of a difference. I made 3.5 ES and was happy with it. Jay

They are charging you for depth of market? Geez!

    Commodiry data ?

Its not free, but the best commodity data by far is CSI. Its the cleanest, and the data goes back 20+ years. You also have a choice of how to calculate continuous data. North American futures cost $32 per month. (at least that's what I pay). Jay

What do you do when you break your own rules?

I never fail to swear when I do something stupid. Its Pavlovian. Good thing I don't have a family about. During my Bright days, I had to internalize my swearing. Made my blood pressure boil over. I swear at myself BTW, not the markets. Occaisionally my broker gets my wrath, but only when...

E Mini's and "Trading in the Trenches"

I traded the Scorpion method for awhile. I think it works better for longer term trades though. Intra day average true range changes too dramatically depending on time of day. Too many other factors intra day as well to trade something so mechanical in my opinion. FIB retracements are a gem for...

I tend to swear a lot.

    How does this work?

Yes. Sort of. I used to work there. They make money from commissions, which are pretty low, AND a desk fee which is expensive unless you do decent volume. The fee was $600 per month for the worst charting program I had ever seen, and Redi+. They were mostly tape readers in my office and gave...

    Hard drive overworked

The defrag worked. Its a new PC, so I wasn't worried about the drive too much. Oops, market just opened. Gotta run. Jay

    Hard drive overworked

Well, it was pretty fragmented. Cleaned that up and we'll see how it runs. I'll get Norton if I'm still having probs. Thanks guys, Jay

    Hard drive overworked

Oh, I have plenty of RAM, 768 MG, and I only run a few programs at a time (usually Qcharts and TWS). I usually use about 5% CPU capacity unless I am performing some task such as openning a program, etc.

    Hard drive overworked

Yep, I'll run a defrag. I add new software all the time to try stuff out, but the problem seems to occur when my quotes are running.

    Hard drive overworked

Another one for you tech wizards. My hard drive has been crunching away like crazy lately, but I'm using less than 10% on CPU usage most of the time. I have enough RAM, so I suspect I have a file of some sort thats full or defective. Suggestions? thanks, Jay

    Chop?

Now that was a choppy day! (Thursday). I got chewed up good. If we go to war, markets are going ballistic. Way too much pent up demand, especially the last few days. Get ready folks! Jay

    ES and NQ Trading

Playing with a simulator almost always gives new traders the God complex: "why can't these idiots figure it out" I will make millions at this. Then reality: "Holy shit, how did that go against me five points in a heartbeat. That never happened in my simulations. Might as well hang on...

    ES and NQ Trading

Just another guy who thinks paper trading is worthless, if not downright destructive. The psych factor is 90% of the game. Trade small to learn. Use QQQ if you have to. Jay

    Daytrading With Moving Average Crossovers

I only find them helpful for identifying the trend (if it isn't already obvious). I have never been able to make money daytrading by chasing markets. If you use only a MA crossover system you are chasing by definition. I will use MA's as a retracement on occaision, but would never simply buy...

    NQ vs full size ndx

You can get absolutely slaughtered on open outcry fills. If you are doing size, and not day trading, the full contract saves on commission. The fills in a quick market can be so poor that many hedge funds even use the minis instead, and they are doing 100's at a time. Jay
