FACT: You can be a profitable trader with just about any account size.

Just another person chiming in stating it all depends on whether you have to live on it. Almost any amount is doable if you don't need to dip in for the rent. Jay

PATTERNS -- So These REALLY Work???

of my trading is pattern based. I have been at this full time, more or less, for 15 years, and have only been really consistent for the past couple, so I wouldn't say its "easy" once you know the patterns. The psych factor, in my opininion, is the most important part. For what its worth, I...

    Impatience

I think this was directed at me. I usually trade ES, and in this market I aim for 3 to 4 points, with a 1.5 point stop, usually. It all depends on the structure of the market. I can place tight stops because I only trade retracement patterns. I haven't cranked out the numbers lately, but I...

    Impatience

I had this problem for a couple years! Still do occaisionally. I prefer to trade for targets, and then let half the position ride when the trade is looking good. Problem is, I stress out and wish to take profits too early. I solved this by using stops or target limits to almost always exit...

How do these guys make $$?

I'm from the same era. In fact, I still listen to 80's music. I'm stuck there. Jay

    my last 7 trades

Took me years to make consistent money. Hang in there after you raise some more cash. I would definitely recommend a mentor, or even go to a prop firm doing futures in an attempt to prevent the same mistakes again. Jay

How do these guys make $$?

I used to work with one every day. I thought I was leading edge with that thing.

filling ES with Limit order on bid: timings

If you are buying the bid, and selling the ask, then how could you know how long the delay is? You are put in line when you do this. Try buying the ask, and selling the bid. You are still put in line, but in most market conditions you should be filled in a second or two. If you are chasing a...

How do these guys make $$?

My mom's broker, at ML, completely manages the account with discretionary power. He does a lot of work. She has been using the guy 20+ years, and he has done pretty well, much better than some hack salesman off the street. For discretionary accounts like this, I think 1.5% is fair. It may even...

How do these guys make $$?

Its per year, just like any financial planner who actively manages an account would charge. No commissions as stated above. Brokers can make serious coin with this setup if they have enough under management. It eliminates the conflict of interest as well. Much better system in my opinion. Jay

How do these guys make $$?

Most brokers are shifting over to a fee based on assets. Merril's 1.5% sounds about right as that's what my mom pays the same company. Jay

Inside the Industry - Chat w/ Don Bright

Are you guys still using ...Track Data? (I think that's what it was anyway). I was in the SF office late 90's and found the tech analysis software to be way below par. Other than that, I had no problem with the desk fee. Just curious in case I ever go back to stock trading. Jay

    How do I in Q-CHarts...

Yeah, I guess that wouldn't make any sense. Haven't even looked at the big contract since before Globex, and never thought that they'd just flip it to electronic after hours. Thanks for the ed. Jay

    Journal of ashes and Eminis

That's how I trade also. Made HUGE difference once I started waiting for targets to be hit. My average trade went from 2 minutes to 10 minutes, but my average profit per winner increased three fold. My win % declined just a bit as I trail marginally, but not too tight. Much more stressful. I...

    Is depth accurate?

From what I've read, its first come first serve. It is possible that a few hundred more cts entered in front of me in the second it takes to reach Globex, but this has been happening too often. I think its inaccurate depth info. I think there's a lag. As for taking a 1 tic worse price, I...
