Trading desk requirements and extra stuff

Do a search in this forum using "tripleheadtogo" and you should find some past discussions. I don't think much of that device. I keep things simple, and inexpensive. Multiple PCIeX16 slots. A few of the dual EGVA video cards (used to be about USD $40 each).

Thanks Scat! I figure that people can do all kinds of things with special software.

Can I run 8 to 12 Monitors from one Laptop ?

What is the rationale for running 12 monitors from a laptop? I don't think you are going to travel and mount up 12 monitors in a hotel room to trade. So the likely scenario is: you do all your trading on your laptop, so that when you go out for a coffee or do a short trip, everything is...

HD whirring sound on boot ?

Unusual sound from hard drives are almost always mechanical. Vibration of some sort. Electronic parts either work or fail with a spark (typically capacitor or resistor). If you value your data and possible prevention from future headache of dealing with a down system, prepare for the...

    Moore's Law slowing down?

Moore's Law: per wiki - Moore's law is the observation that, over the history of computing hardware, the number of transistors on integrated circuits doubles approximately every two years. The period often quoted as "18 months" is due to Intel executive David House, who predicted that period...

Reassembled everything together, attached all cables, tied things up, unit-tested all the fans. Back "almost" like new. ;)

    CPU overheating affecting USB-to-VGA display?

Thanks everybody for your input. Sorry I was mistaken. I did use some thermal glue when I first installed the Intel-provided heatsink. In short - my computer is back in business. No more "CPU overheating" error. (But the past few days have been much cooler too.) I got all 3 of my...

    CPU overheating affecting USB-to-VGA display?

No. Not that anything I am aware of. Unless I contracted a virus and I didn't notice. I purposely have disabled Windows auto update. I normally don't reboot the box and I run it as long as I can. It is one of my workhorse computers for TradeStation. I checked the Task Manager before I...

    CPU overheating affecting USB-to-VGA display?

Thanks for the quick reply, blah12345678. >> Probably an IRQ conflict between the 1-2 video card and the SIIG card. << I have this set up for over 2 years. Not a problem until yesterday. Again, all 9 monitors were working just fine until I rebooted. So something triggered it. The only...

Thanks everybody for the suggestions. Sorry I had forgotten to post an acknowledgement. And update: I have no idea what's going on. The trackball cursor drifting problem still persists. Sometimes it drifts up slowly. Sometimes it drifts up very fast. Sometimes it drifts DOWN! And...

    CPU overheating affecting USB-to-VGA display?

This is an interesting little problem. On one of my computers, it normally supports 9 monitors. 6 monitors on 3 PCIeX16 dual VGA/DVI cards. And the 3 extra monitors by some SIIG USB-to-VGA Pro adapters. A strange thing happened yesterday. Everything was working okay - all 9 monitors...
