    wireless internet

The question is too broad. It is like saying: all german cars are great cars. No. It depends on the make and model. I use wireless Internet at home on 2 of my production workhorse computers. Using a Wireless N router and wifi adapter. Each computer gets a minimum of 10 Mbps. Just...

Build Your Own - Step by Step ( i7 2600k)

"Driver" is important. The Microsoft Windows OS relies on the driver software provided by the hardware manufacturers to "drive" the device. When you buy a new video card, they usually provide the driver software plus some utility applications on a CD in the box. If you buy a used video...

Build Your Own - Step by Step ( i7 2600k)

Okay. I missed the third PCIe x16 because its color is black (just blended into the motherboard color or shadow, LOL). So you have 3 PCIe X16 slots. Forget about PCI. Those are legacy interfaces. You won't find new video cards for PCI these days. PCIe x1 and x16: you can see the big...

Build Your Own - Step by Step ( i7 2600k)

It looks like "Asus P8Z77-V LE PLUS ATX LGA1155" motherboard has only 2 PCIe slots. If you plan to run 6 to 8 monitors, you need to plan ahead a little bit. With only 2 PCIe slots, you can only use the more expensive 4-mon cards.

    on-screen keyboard

If I have my way I do away with my mouse. Keyboard traversals are so much faster for me. But Microsoft (Office suite) has taken away a lot of the keyboard shortcuts I used to use often, to my dismay. The best combination for me (on a laptop) is a keyboard and a trackball. Very few models...

Do I need an upgraded wireless card?

There are two situations. 1) I have been using wireless connections for my computers for over a few years. There were occassional hick ups but most of the time no problem. But I have total control over my set up. I can run a 50-foot RJ-45 wire if I need to. 2) Maybe you are taking your...

Do I need an upgraded wireless card?

Anything that has wireless N is good enough for me. And it looks like they all do. The thing is... how fast you laptop can get the throughput to the Internet highly depends on the wifi signal provider. It matters less whether you have the latest and the greatest on your own laptop. If you...

Build Your Own - Step by Step ( i7 2600k)

JamesEM: RE: 1) Is it necessary to have a DVD-RW drive? Would the machine run faster without it? The machine will not run faster with or without it. You do need at least one media reader in order to load the operating system. Or else how do you install the operating system on a brand new...

Build Your Own - Step by Step ( i7 2600k)

How to start? Start with your pick list of all components, then make sure they are compatible and work together. Start with CPU, may be extra heat sink then motherboard (depends on CPU - socket type) then memory then hard drive / SSD and DVD-RW drive and video card (if needed) and...

    graphics card help

I don't think they are relevant - meaning that they should not cause compatibility issues. I would like to learn otherwise. The DDR2 versus DDR3 are reference to the memory speed of the memory that is onboard the video card, which serve as storage buffer holding whatever 2D/3D images the...

    Screen Cleaner

If that's a concern, perhaps stick to the product that's specially designed for cleaning screens, like the one linked sold at Fry's.

Put together 12 Monitor System but need help managing them

No, don't. Doing so, they are going to chastise you with "what is your P/L figure", or "you will have difficulties paying your electricity bill" non-sense.

Put together 12 Monitor System but need help managing them

Checking on some googled pages, one said: "There is a limit of 10 displays, but this is only a limit of the Display Properties Applet in the Control Panel. If you attach more than 10 monitors, you would also need a custom display properties applet that is capable of configuring the extra...

For those who have no idea about electronics. A typical 22-inch LED monitor: Power consumption: 23 Watts 0.3 Watts on standby http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/pc-peripherals/monitor/archive/LS22A350HS/XY-spec 23 watts let's say you use it for 8 hours a day, that's 184 watt-hour...

smile: I have never used the matrox video product you linked. I think they are too expensive for the function they serve. The IOGear USB-to-VGA adapter works. I have one of those. But the resolution is only 1600x1200. I would recommend SIIG USB-to-VGA Pro adapter. It supports the...

They are taking a vacation because they have a series of losing trades! So study the trades hard! LOL :D I have been using many of the USB-to-VGA/DVI adapters. For the most part they work well. Except on one brand on a multiple adapter configuration.

Whats your video card of choice?

8400 GS video cards, made by PNY, EVGA or ASUS. They are simple, inexpensive, and they work. Each card supports 2 monitors. I have used 4 cards together to support 8 monitors total. No problem. About USD $30 a card, as new...

    Help needed: lightweight mini desktop

What is your goal, really? If it is just compact, light-weight, portability and speed, you can get a laptop with i7 3610QM chip. There is no mentioning that you need to drive 4 or 6 monitors in your post. With USB-based adapters, you may be able to drive 3 to 4 monitors.
