Open Borders - The Final Solution

Immigration is a xenophobic, emotional issue. Studies and statistics are therefore irrelevant.

IB Needs Better Order Execution Quality Control

I have also been having delays in stock order executions. In the past month, 5 seconds has been common. There was 1 order that took about 20 seconds. So, yes IB speed is sloooow.

Is IB playing fair with their customers (new CME Cancellation Fees)?

This will certainly increase my cost. I trade longer time frames (weeks to months) and sometimes I enter orders and if the market doesnt behave as I expected, I cancel the order and sometimes reenter the next day or several days later. In the long run my execution to cancel ratio would be 1...

    FTSE Xinhua China index

Hi def, Thanks for the info and clarification. Further questions: Where can I get longer term charts for this index (10 years or so). Are there any futures / options that corelate with the Shanghai index. I think that has more potential because it is currenlty selling off and can be...

    FTSE Xinhua China index

Hello, Has anyone looked as this future. It started trading today and reflects the big stocks in mainland China. Prospects for China are very bright, but the market has been in a bear for about 5 years and has lately been dropping quite sharply. Bottom fishing, anyone (with all the...

Futures contract that behaves similar to Corn

Here's what I have found so far with IB: Expect all kinds of problems, ambiguities, eccentricities and kinks and you wont be dissapointed. Their customer service email, chat whatever sucks. You are much better off getting info here. You cannot trade grains (electronic or otherwise)...

    Huge Losses

Hello Ripley, Thanks for a very entertaining thread. :) My take: The psychology or deeper consciousness has to be rewired to be successful in the market. This takes a lot of time and practice. As you grow, most "rules" will feel more natural. eg. When you are profitable or in a...

    JGB trading anyone?

I dont have Sierra charts - so not possible. Liquidity compared to ZB or ZN - very low. Average daily volume for JGB - about 4000 contracts. Scalping is not possible, but for longer term trades, I dont see a problem. I expect to lose 3-4 ticks for spread per round turn.

    How small can one trade?

Contract sizes are predetermined. Smallest ones are the minis. I believe corn mini, gbp mini, silver mini are small, but they still need a margin of atleast a few hundred dollars. As a previous poster suggested saving money and coming back may be an idea or paper trading. The markets...

    JGB trading anyone?

Where can I find delayed intraday charts for the JGB (big or small). I tried futuresource, but they have only daily (one day delayed) charts for the big contract. I tried IB but got the message that historical data was not available for this contract. Thanks.

    JGB trading anyone?

The margin and commisions are in JPY, so I thought I would need JPY. Perhaps, I am wrong.

    JGB trading anyone?

Entered a trade two days ago. Experience - Had to transfer some money from USD to JPY. Did it using IB's FX. It was quite straight forward. The spreads on the JGB are about 2 ticks. When Japan is trading, liquidity is good, but when it is not, the liquidity is quite poor. Other...

How do I get my ego out of my trading?

Hi John, Perhaps there is a misunderstanding. Emotions are not delusions. They are very much real. In fact they are very important and tell one whether one is right or wrong. It is the REAL difference between one's mental image and reality that causes the emotion.

How do I get my ego out of my trading?

My take: Emotion is caused when the mental model differs from reality and the person becomes aware of it and the difference collapses. eg. I thought I had no money in my pocket and suddently found some. So I am happy - a positive emotion. When I thought I had money and found there was...

    Perceptions management

IMO, the perception does not meet the objective but overshoots considerably, followed by a market reversal and then perception building in the opposite direction. This is the dance as I see it.

    Buffet and Dollar short

I am an admirer of Buffet, but have found that you have to take what he says with a grain of salt. There are many instances where his actions and words dont mesh. Regarding macro bets - he has traded zero coupon bonds, silver and currencies in the last several years. All of them are macro...
