should worthless option expiration count as a trade?

Thanks. I called the broker, IB, today and talked to a rep. Got a different rep this time - the one I talked to last week was fairly sympathetic and that said my case was going to be discussed at a meeting. I mentioned two things that I thought may help my case: - options technically...

should worthless option expiration count as a trade?

I haven't been able to open any new positions at my broker since Monday morning because I opened some option positions on Friday and they expired worthless, and the broker's current interpretation is that option expirations count as trades, so I was flagged as a PDT (and my account is < $25K)...

Fills for day orders after market close

It was decidedly not a winner. It was CVTX, and after the close that day (this past Thursday) it went down 25%. Thanks to all for the replies; I'll talk to the broker again and see if someone else there is willing to look into this a little harder.

Fills for day orders after market close

My broker gave me a fill for my day limit order at 4:00:10. I called them about it. The rep said that the fill "probably" happened before the market close and that the MM may have been too busy to report it on time. The MM was the broker itself. I asked if they could find out when the fill...

    Options and Splits

As a very very happy holder of CELL October 35 calls, I can verify that on the morning of the 16th they became October 23.38 calls with a multiplier of 150 on IB. Sorry you were short. :(

    Ameritrade SUX!

Yeah, it's kind of annoying that they almost never post about application servers or streamer problems on either the Trading Home page or in the Today's Hot Issues section of @nswerBox. But when investment.datek.com seems hosed, try investmenta.datek.com or investmentb.datek.com. Sometimes...

IB needs a daytime ONLY order for equities

I wonder what IB's algorithm for cancelling day orders is. I once placed a day order a bit after 4PM, and it didn't get cancelled - it got executed at 9:31AM the next day.

    Datek servers are down

What's their routing like? Datek still has best-price routing (for equities). Does Freetrade route only to certain MM's or ECN's that pay for order flow?

IB PDT on Canadian Stock (TSE)?

I'd love to be wrong about this, but I think we Americans aren't allowed to own foreign equities.

    Using Datek

The way I do this is to click on one or more "trade trend" fields in Streamer, which will pop up 10-minute tick-by-tick charts, about 150x350 pixels each. Streamer is pretty handy. I especially like that it charts the bid and ask, not only the trades, because when dealing with options, the...

    IB does it again

It's a little unfair to say that complaining about bad fills is like asking for handholding. If the problem is that there's a minor delay before posting or cancelling the order, that may not be worth complaining to the broker (at Schwab, humans may get involved with some orders, such as...

    Free book from IB

Aw, now I feel left out... no book. Is it only new people who get it? Been with IB since April 2001. But I only do about $5 in commissions (well, $10 if you include cancellation fees) per day.

    Why Direct Access??

Direct access is useful if your broker's auto-routing algorithm sucks. I stick with my current broker because of the platform, but with some stocks, my order isn't posted for around 15 to 30 seconds, and often the stock has moved through my bid or offer at that point. And my broker rarely sends...

Does IB ever respond to e-mails?

A few months ago I had a trade problem. A buy order got hung at PHLX, I called to ask them to manually cancel it, they said they would, but it got executed a half hour later, and since it put me over the margin limit, IB sold it at market a minute later. I called IB, they said the original order...

    Ib Quote Policy ?

Is this limitation only on API-requested market data? I don't use the API at all, but I do have 15 pages, each with 20-30 symbols on them (lots of option quotes), and it'd suck if I could only flip through them 30 times a day - on a fast day like today, I may exceed that. At least they should...

    Trojan Attack!

I think Windows 2000 comes with IIS enabled by default, and there have been a number of holes in it. SP4 is available on CD now, and firewall-less folks ought to install it before putting the system on the big bad Internet...

    Broker for small-time options trades

My broker suddenly changed the margin rules today. We now need equity with margin value (essentially, equity exclusive of option value) to be > $2K to initiate trades. My account is several thousand dollars, but all but $1.5K of that is tied up in options, so I now can't buy anything. Is...

    IB and Java

Sun Java 1.4.1_02 was a mild disaster on my Windows XP system. TWS ran fine, but other sites' Java applets would occasionally cause IE to die or wedge. 1.4.1_01 is fine. I've swapped back and forth between the two a few times and confirmed this - I really wanted to give the _02 version a try...

how bad is buying/selling at market?

One of my brokers isn't direct-access for options; they send to a subset of the exchanges. (They once told me that for each option, they have a list of which exchanges have historically been the best for it and send the order only to those). I was wondering what happens if I enter an options...

both sides on one option contract

I think there's an older thread with more info, but... basically, it's against the rules. I've never even tried it. Here's the rub. Many specialists, if they don't take your bid/offer yet it's within the bid/offer spread, will display it. Today, someone has been continually bidding a 1-lot...
