    Obama takes entire unemployment check

Do you have a time frame in mind? End of this year? End of 2012?

Health Bill Would Add 3.8% Tax on Investment Income

The surtax is on taxable unearned income (except for retirement plans) if your overall income (including earned income) is larger than 200K or 250K.

TD ameritrade down again for me

One thing that surprised me one time was when a day order of mine that didn't specify extended hours got executed at 9:25. A rep said it is normal for orders to sometimes be submitted before the open. I was happy with the fill, since it turned out to be the high price of the morning, but people...

TD ameritrade down again for me

When you did get the order filled, what was the timestamp? I've seen instances with several of my brokers where they lose communications with the exchange, but the order gets executed just fine but it may be minutes or hours until communications are restored and it gets reported back to you.

Why did people pay 14 a share for Palm?

Probably why people are still buying BIDU, which has a price-to-sales ratio of 26 yet keeps going up 4% a week.

    Swm - Wtf??

The options on SWM have an amazingly low effective delta. SWM just went from $50.95 to $51.41 in less than a minute. The March $50 calls only went from $3.1x$3.6 to $3.1x$3.7.

    What platforms run on iPhone,Blackberry, Droid...etc ?

TWS for iPhone and Blackberry has basic charting. See http://interactivebrokers.com/en/pagemap/pagemap_mobiletrading.php iStockManager for iPhone has charting with a bunch of studies available, but (presumably because it gets its data feed from TDAmeritrade) charts are only available for...

You know what blows me away about being a discretionary trader? How one slip....

My aphorism about trading is "it takes a lot of work to make money, and very little work to lose money." I tend to do better with very short term (15 minutes or less) trades than the ones I let go for several days and don't watch very closely.

    What Drives After-Hours Trading?

There were articles a couple years ago talking about how the show worked. It's taped 1.5 hours in advance, and people calling in get to hear the taping while they're on hold. They're supposed to agree not to act on what they hear.

    What's wrong with IB?

When I've wired funds to IB, they've been credited to my account in a few hours. As documented on their funding page, they place a 4-day hold on incoming ACH funds, but I've generally gotten the funds credited in 3 days. TDAmeritrade and Schwab, last I did such, credit incoming ACH funds...

Rare arbitrage profit from call vs put prices: explain why not being taken?

This might be more interesting if the options sold in penny increments and had a narrow spread, but as it stands now you could get killed by the spread. If you bought the option combo when CTIC was .60 and sold it when CTIC was .80, how much could you have made?

    Not Holy but Close Grail

This reminded me of something from Hulbert a couple days ago about a market timing system based on the beginnings/ends of months and holidays. http://www.marketwatch.com/story/update-on-highest-ranked-timing-system-2010-02-04

    Not Holy but Close Grail

Thanks for the map. It confirms some things we sort of suspected: the market tends to go up at the beginning of each month as new money from paychecks flows in, and in mid-April as people scramble to fund their previous year's IRA, and around Thanksgiving due to expectations for a good retail...

    E-mini spread trading

Out of curiosity, what sort of strategy do you have for this pairing? Is it that the DJIA has lower beta than the S&P, or has more weighting in industrials and less in financials?

Looking for broker suggestions who doesn't take over order flow

Sorry, I just reread this and need to correct/clarify. For some reason I thought the OP was talking about options. IB does not charge extra for direct-routing stock orders.

    VXX and VIX mispricing

I'm not even sure VXX tracks the VIX futures all that closely. I've been trading VIX Feb futures (VXG0) the past few days, watching them, March futures, and VXX simultaneously. VXX tracks the front two months' futures only approximately. For example, over a few minutes around 15:30 yesterday...

    Etrade, wtfo?

All the discount broker ads are kind of dumb. Ameritrade has the ones that imply it's a good thing that your automated triggers will still run even after you're dead. Scottrade has the vanity ads with the owner in his own helicopter. I guess the worst was the Discovery Brokerage ad with the...

Google Is Going To Have A Shortfall!

Usually one has to go to Yahoo message boards to see hyperbole of this caliber. Even if Google pulls out of China totally, it only represented less than 2% of their revenue. The founders are selling 15% of their holdings over 5 years. That is not "in mass" or even en masse, and there's no...

Looking for broker suggestions who doesn't take over order flow

If you feel your broker is either delaying the order by going through the price improvement process or is parking your order on an exchange that benefits them more than you, you can direct-route your order at IB (in return for a larger commission),TDAmeritrade, and likely others.

    VXX is unquestionably dysfunctional

Presumably VXX tracks SPVXSP (S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Index) pretty well. I don't have a data terminal that carries SPVXSP; can someone make a graph of those two?
