    esignal's backtesting capability

Could you be more specific with the weird bugs you saw? I never saw anything that couldn't be explained by the way TS handles orders at the end of the bar.

    Emini divergence journal

Enjoying the thread so far. Divergence is one of my favorite plays. Question on ADX: Traditionally ADX is used to indicate a trend is in place, a rising number indicates a potential trend. You're setting up on an ADX of 30, implying a trend, but you're going the opposite way on the trade...

    esignal's backtesting capability

I agree on the EFS issue, Bundle. I believe eSignal is equal to, or slightly better, than TS in most regards, EXCEPT for their EFS scripting language. I'm not a programmer, but I found it relatively easy to create custom indicators and strategies in TS. It's a pain in the posterior to program...

    volume scanner

Neovest FA could do a great deal of scanning based on simple sets of arithmetic comparisons and boolean logic. You could get quite complex with it. You could also filter off basic chart formations. You could pass one set of filter results to another filter. FA has some quirks and data...

    volume scanner

Neovest's First Alert was the best I've seen. It could "prorate" volume data comparisons, which is important since volume is typically skewed at the beginning and end of the trading day. E.g., find NYSE stocks that are projected to be 3x their 90 day average volume by comparing the volume...

Using stops on listed stocks - mechanical or mental?

Haven't traded stocks intraday for awhile, but used to 6+ hours a day. The specialists will run stops if they get the chance. Mostly, this will happen during the midday lull. Wouldn't you stroll across the room and pickup a $100 if it was there and you had a minute? I used to only use...

Market is coiling like a snake on crack...

I'll use the WML (With My Luck) indicator: Reading 1; I quit shorting almost two months ago. WML says - The market should go down now. Reading 2; I have an index put in my IRA. I cashed out my call. WML says- The market should go up now. Reading 3; Also...

    IB Front - Ends?

Thanks for the clarification, j. I missed the distinction.

    Futures Daytrading

I agree with nitro. Trade the SPY's and/or QQQ's first. Make money there then jump to the futures. Also, this will give you a chance to get comfortable with your trading techniques and software.

    IB Front - Ends?

I use IB and have really grown to like the standalone TWS for my trading. Setting up some hotkeys (or "hot-clicks" for me) made the difference. I believe IB charges 0.003 per share for API generated orders.

    New Book from IB

I received the book as well and started reading it this weekend. It's comprehensive, but basic. It seems it was written as a senior-level (maybe early grad-level) text for a college finance course. I figure I'll pick up a few things.

    IB STPLMT with Bracket

Hey Steve or anyone with IB, Can ya'll fix the hot key setup to allow a bracket order with a stop limit order? Even with the latest build I still can't setup a hotkey for this. It tells me "Only a limit order can have an attached Auto Stop". I'm taking the summer off from trading, but it...

    FXCM hmmmmmmm.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is FX are 1256 contracts and get the same 60/40 treatment as futures. Other than that, AAA, I agree with you so far. I've been demo'ing a few FX accounts for awhile now, trying to get a feel for the market. I just haven't seen...

    FXCM hmmmmmmm.

Do you really believe it can't be done and isn't done quite often? Granted, they may not 'see' your stops, but they know where the stops are and will try to take you out. I'm talking from my experience in other markets (albeit limited in some). I have not traded currency futures. Perhaps...

    30-Min High & Low Breakouts/Breakdowns

I never had much luck with a similar strategy on listed. Of course, I'm just above "suck" on the the trading skills scale. If I tried it again I'd wait for a retest, then strength, or a retest, then failure. Your risk to reward will be better. You'll have one run away from you once in...

    FXCM hmmmmmmm.

I've traded stocks (mostly), futures, and demo'd currencies off and on for a while. Does a market exist where the market makers don't gun stops or trade against their customers in some fashion? I doubt it.

    victor is averaging

Only place I've seen adding to a loser work is arbing a spread (stock, future, currency, whatever) with the goal of it reverting to the mean. But the adding is done as part of the plan and, like you said, the overall position still has a stop. Fifteen years ago I had a friend, Phil, who...

Comments on eSignal 7.x and above

eSignal seems to have issues with spaces in the pair/spread line. I don't have the program here so can't check myself. Try 'leh-neu' and see if that works. Then build fm there.

winning week turns into losing week

I've read my previous post and it sounded pompous & all-knowing. Believe me, I wish I had put circuit breakers in place BEFORE I started daytrading. But, hey, I'm still in the game and learning more everyday.
