What is the future of hedge funds?

slowly the different types of investment vehicles will equalize with regards to what they are able to get away with on the fees. We are already seeing retail vehicles such as mutual funds and RIAs offering long/short multi asset strategies where the fees range from 1.5% to 2.5% flat without...

Statistical Analysis of Intraday Data - Any worthwhile resources?

don't know of any online resources on the topic I could point out to you, but I did have a couple of questions. What instruments are you focusing on for your intraday testing? Stocks, futures? What software or language are you using to do this? I recently purchased intraday historical data...

Any machine learning trading system with adaptive parameters?

I bought biocomp dakota somewhere around the year 2006. I was not successful in generating anything truly outstanding or interesting. Maybe it was just me. Perhaps there have been improvements since then.

Teaching your children how to trade

Interesting thread. My own thought is that I when I choose to retire I would want to hand it over to my kids rather than sell the business. I think it would be more lucrative long term to keep it running rather than selling out for some short sighted valuation somebody may put on this type of...

    Fundseeder. Opinions? Useful/Not. Risk?

I looked into Fundseeder a while ago and decided against it. Any strategy with outlying sharpe ratios will catch their attention and there would be nothing preventing them from trying to reverse engineer your IP. Lots of potential downside, no clear upside.

401k, financial manager or real estate?

don't become a landlord, been there done that and it's no fun. You can make better returns with less hassles through the markets. Do something conservative like maybe a hedged value/dividend stock strategy and enhancing returns using covered calls or something. If you use conservative risk...

"Jim Simons is Correct About Trend-Following"

Simons is correct. Trend following is a challenged space at present. Doesn't mean it will always be that way. I don't think there's some permanent structural change that has arbed away trends forever. It's mainly due to the deflationary environment and uncharted central bank policies. Back in...

Mark to market election experience for LLC

You're best off using a professional to do this. I used Green & Co a couple of years back. The formation docs are very specific to a Trader Entity. If you botch the initial setup and legalese, there's a chance it may not be a legit 'Trader Entity' in the eyes of the IRS.

How low Canadian dollars will go?

next year we could see around 65cents US per CAD. further out in the future maybe less than 50cents US per CAD once the new alternative energy paradigm starts to gain traction. Nobody will require Canada's vast petroleum offerings.

    Large sorting in R

It has to do with calculations that had to be assigned to clusters to make the thing run in a reasonable time frame. And certain things had to be cleared out of memory to go on the next step. This creates a lot of issues if I want to access certain objects at a later stage of the backtest.

    Large sorting in R

So I got the r script from my programmer. It looks quite good but fell short of my expectations with regards to speed and 'modify-ability'. And to me the R language feels weird (like heiroglyphs) so I don't think I can work with it. I've always found it hard to modify or extend functionality of...
