Survey: Financial advisers not so popular with millionaires

I am in investment advisor and I agree. Most high net worth clients are hot money with unrealistic expectations. You never hear from them when you are making them money but when you have even a modest drawdown, they head for the exits en masse. This, of course, does not apply to hedge funds...

Lost Money Trading but Now I Owe $2Million in Tax

is it because of disallowed wash sales where they are counting most of your winning trades but disallowing most of your losing trades. If that is the case then it is a big problem. You should have formed a 'Trader' entity and done MTM accounting at the outset. Good luck to you.

    Trading as a service

In that case I am fairly sure you cannot circumvent registration. If it's futures then you are acting as a CTA and would need to register (you would be like a mini collective2 who is registered a CTA). If it's securities then it would be SEC registration (not state regulation) because you would...

Career Change Opportunity - Protege to RIA and become an Advisor

I assume there is some sort of trailing divestment for the founder? Like where you pay him a share of profits until he passes away? Otherwise I don't see what's in it for him. Most retiring independent RIAs end up selling their practice to a bigger firm.

Interactive Broker's founder quits CT for taxfree Florida

high earners that are mobile have little reason to stay in blue states. In NY and CA the highest tax bracket is 13% and 9%. Factor on top of that local income taxes. All-in they get shaken down for more than 50% of their income. If Hilary becomes our next prez I can see the current exodus from...

Why is not everyone doing this?

it does work. Just look at intraday pair ratio charts - greater reversion tendency than either leg alone. There are also long term pair opportunities. But on the long term I prefer trend following rather than reversion ie. beta hedged divergence trades that can go on for weeks or months. The...

Tepper's Move To Fla Will Impact NJ Tax Revenue

NJ and NY have become hopeless places to do business. All of it stems from the state having to appease the public sector unions with their outrageous pensions and benefits. $450k salaries for school principals. $150k pensions for retired elementary school teachers. $90k pensions for clerical...
