Who told you it is a hedge fund? Its a mutual fund with a $2,500 minimum.

Fund loses 600mil (15%) doing spreads

That is true but this strategy was essentially crap even before it blew up. Red line is the strategy and green line is the S&P500. And a lot of this stuff gets sold to unsuspecting mom and pop investors. An example of "non-fiduciary" behavior of brokers.

Fund loses 600mil (15%) doing spreads

I will never cease to be amazed at how much money flows into such garbage strategies

Trading is a way of earning or hobby?

A very long time. I started dabbling with trading as a teenager, now I'm 44. I think I'll be consumed by it for the next 50 years as well!

R Programming for Traders, Helps small traders compete with Hedge Funds

I use the GFortran compiler with the Codeblocks IDE. Definitely a big improvement over the mainframe based Fortran77 I used in college (a long time ago).

both - I make my living solely from trading but it is also my #1 hobby and obsession

R Programming for Traders, Helps small traders compete with Hedge Funds

I've written R programs and run them daily as one of the steps in trading my systems. Despite the hype, it's not the be-all and end-all for this type of application. I find it very slow for very large data sets even when using multiple core processing. I have started to program my workhorse...

    Time to buy real assets

barring another GFC, inflation is on the rise. It will likely eventually stabilize at around 4% or 5% which is the long term equilibrium in a normally functioning economy. I for one am looking to invest in one or two rental properties to participate in reflation - I just put in an offer on a two...

IB TWS - Freezing & Crashing

I have issues with not being able to close TWS windows and the only way out is to 'end process' in task manager. I notice this happens everytime I update Java. Why does this kind of stuff still happen in this day and age?

When do you think AI will dominate trading field?

my opinion is that AI is very good at deterministic modeling - those things where inputs and outputs are governed by certain relationships that can be modeled (even mildly chaotic relationships). These could include things like weather forecasting, medical diagnosis (robotic doctors/surgeons)...

Should I consider a prop firm? Or just trade my own funds? ($2 mil)

When you invest large amounts of personal capital you have to start looking at it as a business with extreme focus on drawdown control and straightness of equity growth. If you have the ability to develop alternative versions of your base strategy (or new strategies altogether) then that would...

How long did your IB Security Code battery last?

you should ask them for the key card. It's like a credit card with printed code combinations.

Thinking Of Going For CFA -- Is It Possible?

many state regulators will let you register as an RIA if you have stuff like CFA, CFP and waive the requirement of passing the series 65. The series 65 is a very easy test with just a few days of study required.

Becoming a CTA - CME Group PDF

A 'shareholder thing'? This was the shut down of a 200 year old trading firm because the CEO allowed the company to use segregated customer funds to feed it's liquidity crunch. Circumstances were different from PFGBest but the end result was the closure of an FCM and loss of customer funds...

Becoming a CTA - CME Group PDF

Think twice before registering as a CTA. The NFA keeps adding more and more compliance burden every year making it harder and more expensive for the small guy to keep up. They have to 'protect the public' against all the scheming CTAs working from their basement offices while the Corzines of the...

Will US markets be more expensive than what they have been historically, forever?

CAPE ratio is looking pretty rich right now. And inflation is still relatively low but slowly heading upwards to long term mean of maybe 5%. Both of these point towards gradually decreasing US stock valuations in years to come.

any other funds similar to Renaissance Tech?

I'd love to know who this fund is and whether I can invest! I bet they don't take US money. They seem on par with Medallion (or better). Medallion has averaged an annual return of approx 47% for the past 10 yrs, and approx 34% for the past 5 years.
