Agreed. But more data is not worse than less :) You need the rules of the system to take advantage of the underlying workings of the market that are present day in and day out and more data will help you rule out the bad ideas that are masked as good ideas when only using 2months of data.

I don't think 2.5 points a day is enough to be confident with the system going forward, especially with the small sample. You really need to go back years not months.

I have yet to see a day when the S&P did not have a "clear setup". In fact it usually has 3 or more definable moves.

Intraday you need to be watching the whole complex of equity indexes at the same time. DJIA, SPX, NDX, SOX, ES, NQ. also you need to be aware of NYSE TRIN and you should chart 1min NYSE TICK(with 60pd bollinger bands). Get something like tradeprospector for charts so you can see all the key...

Here is my guideline, maybe it can be of some help. Keep in mind that you must first have a winning system :) with positive expectancy or varying contract size will not help save it.

The originator of this thread has no idea what he/she is talking about and no doubt will never be a successful trader. I see every move of the markets each day and I can say without question that they are NOT RANDOM. day in and day out the same things occur at similar price points.

If you are daytrading on a discretionary basis, here is a tip. Don't look at your account value or P/L. Not even at the end of the day; maybe on the weekend take a look. Just be aware that you are up or down in general. You cannot have any attachment to any of your previous trades, market...

You must clarify that... ie. the 1/2 daytrading margins for Interactive Brokers end at that time; but that is just for that particular firm; others are different and everyone does not use IB.

I don't know what type of trading your talking about (intraday, weekly..) but I say if your wrong on your conviction then the market will just leave you in the dust and broke. I say get out if your wrong, you can easily get back in the same direction as your conviction in the near future. Why...
