Attempt to smuggle 134 billion in US bonds in a suitcase?

Here is the same news item published by "Welt", a german newspaper comparable to "Der Spiegel": (Please use Google Translate) http://www.welt.de/wirtschaft/article3918926/Geschmuggelte-Anleihen-sind-wohl-echt.html There must be a DPA report behind it, but I did not see it.

Attempt to smuggle 134 billion in US bonds in a suitcase?

Bonds are most likely genuine !!!! Agencies (dpa) are spreading news that the smuggled bonds are most likely genuine. The kennedy bonds are probably still checked, but regarding the other bonds, there is little doubt (they are real), a GDF spokesman explained on saturday...

Attempt to smuggle 134 billion in US bonds in a suitcase?

"Der Spiegel", a very reputable german newspaper, has picked up the story: http://www.spiegel.de/wirtschaft/0,1518,630086,00.html Italian Customs and secret services are still "verifying". Don't you think it would be cleared out by now if it was that simple: "There is no 1bln kennedy bond"

Attempt to smuggle 134 billion in US bonds in a suitcase?

I'd tend to agree. However, if it was an absolute top-level issue, we (most likely) would not be reading/writing these lines and the italian cops would have had no chance. Iraq/Iran/North Korea: Unlikely, amount too high. Russia, China, Japan: More Likely US, UK (some "dark" financial...

Attempt to smuggle 134 billion in US bonds in a suitcase?

Everybody who thinks they were fake; turn on your brain ! There could be only one reason, why somebody would "fake" such papers: to get into the newspapers, as a giant joke. It's not possible to successfully counterfeit these securities, because each serial number will be verified directly...

    Oil rises to new six-month high.....Do I hear $75, $100, $150, $300

For me this is another clear indication that "Peak Oil is Past" (I opened another thread with this title long ago). We have seen Peak Oil in 2005, 2006. The supply / demand issue of oil will be THE major economic force for the coming decade.

    Letter from a Dodge Dealer

He said, he did nothing wrong; while I really know nothing about car dealing, it was clear for months the shit could hit anytime - he could at least have minimized his inventory.

The real reason treasuries are falling

Verb :) Of course not an option for everyone. As about where: I'd not go with one of the "evil" offshore tax havens (0-<10% rate). With the political environment, these probably all will run into difficulties. I'd better choose an "official" low tax country, like HK, some EU-member...

Inflation Hedge Question - is there a way to "go long" the CPI?

I completely agree with sprst on shadowstats and govt numbers. My proposal: 60% TIPS 10% Gold GLD 10% Silver SLV 10% Oil USL 10% Agriculture DBA By nature, really hedging against (High-/Hyper-)Inflation is next to impossible. It is bad for stocks and other factors, like social...
