I guess the only way to have some peace of mind is spreading your risk over different accounts at different reputable firms. Put some of your profits in an insured account and keep kruger rands in the safe in case the financial system blows up. :cool:

No daytrading margin in the case of futures means that they stick to the exchange requirements and don't have lower margin requirements for daytraders. I believe a few brokerages allow you to daytrade with something like $2000 per contract for the eminis. Do you know any of them?

It doesn't help much but I know there are many futures brokers offering "level 2" for eminis Man Financial being one of them. I wonder though how useful that could be and if they play games too. My sense is what matters is what's going on in the pit so the chart and the tape would be the best...

There is nothing wrong with shorting. Short term trading is different from investing. Anyway I don't think shorting will be a good idea, the market is going to gap down big. Whatever you do as an individual it is not going to affect the market, it will do what it wants to do.
