Goldman real estate fund down from $1.8 bn to $30m

And only a couple of days ago - Morgan Stanley has told investors in its $8.8 billion real-estate fund that it may lose nearly two-thirds of its money from bum property investments, the WSJ reports. These guys should have invested in Dubai they would have only lost 55%

Greece to make bond shorting illegal??

MNI "Some traders say this is a "technical tweak", merely introduced to stop repo failure and also encourage repo transactions with Greek banks after some banks pulled their repo lines earlier in the week."

Can you buy bonds at Prop Firms?

Schneider, Marex, Tower Trading, Futex, Xconnect etc are bond prop houses but London based. You can trade cash bonds but mainly cash treasuries, never heard of corporate being done at these places. Mostly do futures of bund, bobl, schatz, gilts, tnotes, tbonds etc

Does any one know of a Prop firm that does not require experience?

Plenty in London, just apply to get on the courses of the likes of Schneider, Marex, Elite/Tower Trading, Futex etc etc. You're then trained, backed or sacked. No money down, no downside, just difficult odds but someone has to make it.

    Bloomberg Unprofessional - inept reporters

I'd like to extend special attention to those at Bloomberg Professional whose inept abilty to report the ECBs 6month LTRO allotment correctly cost many people. May I suggest they invest in a Reuters terminal next and just copy what they write. It would be safer for all involved. The Bloomberg...

    Even the pros blow up

It seems everyone knew they had cornered the tin market last year so when they felt the squeeze and margin calls came in who else on the lme is going to be buying? They would slam it down on them, same way traders drove LTCMs positions into oblivion to teach them a lesson :D

March 16th FOMC "Extended period" or not?

Will they take it out or leave it in? The FOMC will convene for their 6-weekly meeting on monetary policy and publish its statement at 19.15 CET. In January, the FOMC statement didn’t contain too many surprises. The Fed upgraded its eco outlook and unwound its emergency policy measures...

    International Futures Trading Platform

You can do it via FIX on TT but it has issues if you need unnetted data and worry about milliseconds or try GL they were a long way ahead of TT on connecting to all those Asian exchanges in a superior way but probably too much outlay for an individual setup. Think Propex in Aus trade all those...

Futures trading at a Prop House in London

Most prop traders in London I've met with with a half decent degree did investment bank interviews first, it's where everyone who didn't get into trading at a bank turns as second option. I've seen a few pHd in maths and finance tackle prop trading unsuccessfully. They kept insisting on where...

What proportion of Eurex vol is bank prop?

Thank you for your inquiry. Around 20% of the contracts traded on Eurex originate from proprietary trading activities of members. This includes bank proprietary trading, proprietary trading firms and high frequency trading firms. If you have any further questions you are welcome to contact...

What proportion of Eurex vol is bank prop?

BofA Merrill Lynch estimates that about 20 percent of trading on Eurex, the European derivatives market that is jointly owned by Deutsche Boerse and the Swiss exchange, is attributable to prop trading. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=a0vQtGTb8dOY I did ask investor...

Obama to Propose New Rules on Banks’ Size, Proprietary Trading

Start selling cardboard boxes outside the Goldman prop floor for an easy buck :D I really hope this doesn't kill the liquidity in the futures markets, we need those guys.

    Goldman Sachs Q4 EPS $8.20

Their trading and direct investments accounted for 76% of their 2009 income and that's not just taking brokerage and spreads off client trades. Compare that to someone like Westpac which was 5%. I know a prop guy who's traded at a number of the wall street banks and he says I'm naive to think...

Obama to Propose New Rules on Banks’ Size, Proprietary Trading

What's going to happen to Goldman's share price when the details are announced is what I want to know, they make so much from their prop side - trading all the leaked economic releases early? :D Will the days of hearing the pit squawk go "Goldman sells 2000 just before the figure!" be a thing...
