    Options Mentoring

I know what you're saying Mav but the problem is that anybody starting up in options has a huge choice of what to read, boards to go to etc.. Maybe my money was poorly spent but that is only possible to say in hindsight. All I can say is that my trading is now better than it's ever been but...

    Options Mentoring

Ok I'll start. First came across options 1999. Did local stock exchange options course (basic then advanced) for a few hundred $$'s. 2001 did optionetics seminar and 'practiced' (unsuccessfully) for a while. Went back and repeated the courses over subsequent years and more 'practice' (read...

    Options Mentoring

What would be much more helpful is for a retail trader(s) to comment on what course he/she has taken to become a successful options trader and over what time frame. Maybe Mav can get the ball rolling and tell us how he went from retail to pro without joining some firm or other and how long it...

    Options Mentoring

Far too late, I've done them. Remember I'm a retail guy who has a day time job and need someone to help me learn this stuff as efficiently as possible. If I had to do it over again I would do them in the following order: 1. optionetics 2 day seminar as an introduction (~$3500) followed by 2...

    Options Mentoring

Come on IV, you're no fool and you know exactly what I meant. If you've never taken an options course then how would you know what has been taught? If you don't know what has been taught then how could you possibly offer any constructive/destructive commentary? You see the difference between me...

    Options Mentoring

Ok guys, I give up.You all win. I'll just keep on spending my money on further study/courses/reading/trading. So far it seems to be paying off. Good luck. db

Optioncoach, you're a good guy and I like your book and, like some others on this board, you have only the most noble of intentions but .... Unfortunately some analogies aren't appropriate, despite giving a superficial appearance of being so. Trading isn't golf. There's no physical skill...

Tums you are totally clueless but I know you mean well. As I said before if you haven't done the course (any course) then please don't offer your 'UNINFORMED' opinion. Capiche? Same goes for all the other students (read 'book') experts here. Just keep paper trading your little accounts and tell...

    Options Mentoring

guy990opl It's ok. You'll find a lot of self taught 'experts' on this site who trash courses/seminars/mentors etc and recommend a course of home study (e.g. 'spend $100 on books like cottle and natenberg and study them to make you proficient and then blow some money in the market to further...

    Collecting theta

Whoa, hold on a minute chaps! Let me get this straight. You are saying that an otm/itm option with one month to expiry has a LOWER THETA than an option with three months (or whatever) to expiry?! Come on, just look at any option matrix and you'll see that's nonsense. And looking at options that...

    Apple Bull Calls too easy?

Hi stockhustler Best to ignore the previous 2 posters, forex had some trades go bad on him and is still in the recovery phase and probably a little bitter, and TT2 tends to assault posters for no particular reason (check out his previous posts on the option forum if you've got some spare time...

    Collecting theta

I'm afraid crgarcia's statement is correct. As has already been stated, the atm has the highest theta while the away from the money thetas decrease. BUT the NEAR month theta is larger than the FAR month. Iow theta for the near month option is greater than the far month equivalent strike option...

    Apple Bull Calls too easy?

If one is very bullish then buying a calendar isn't the best strategy. Furthermore if vol collapses your calendar will loose since it's long vega. db

Would you close this DOTM short put?

Paper profit? This is a paper trade? If you really want to hang on until the bitter end then at least buy the lower/higher strike put to make yourself a spread and lock in most of your profit. Otherwise take the advice already proffered. One more thing. A naked short put is a very high risk...
