    Regarding Wilmott Registration

I assume they want to avoid people giving a dummy email address, made only to register at the site. They want an address from a domain where it's not so easy to get one.

Yeah, I assume they know what they are doing. And considering what they are paying, the people they look for must know what they are doing too. It does look really cool.

    c++ question

When I was developing C++ I used to look at the moderated newsgroup. I think it was comp.lang.c++.moderated. There were some tough people there at the time, like Andrew Koenig and sometimes Stroustrup himself

    Hedge Funds and Programming

good points. Yes, I would say that finance and maths can be the top. I would tend to give preference to maths, considering the complexity of the subject. And yes, considering that there are no special speed requirements, Java is fine. Although I wouldn't be so easy about comparisons between...

    Hedge Funds and Programming

I agree. And there are also many books. But that's true also for programming and almost all other disciplines. But, of course, you can't do everything at professional level. Unfortunately. If now I had to choose I might go for a more finance oriented education. And I actually don't understand...

    Hedge Funds and Programming

Although I would tend to agree with the title of the thread, I have to say that in this specific case the information is not correct. I don't know why, but these pictures are going around with the reputation of belonging to the italian tv. The girl is Pamela David, she is from Argentina. I...

(How To) Hire A Programmer? What Precautions?

That depends on your requirements and on what you are capable of. If you need something not complex you don't have to do it really well. You just have to do it well enough.

Don and Mav, Part Deux! (Live Chat)

Ah, semi strong efficiency :) But wait, you said you used to look at fundamentals. What made you change your mind? Or you were having non public information?

Don and Mav, Part Deux! (Live Chat)

Yes, I remember you saying that. But is you spreadsheet absolutely static? Don't you have a way to configure its logic, based on the current situation?

    Stocks are random variables

actually, I'm not sure an efficientist would argue with that. I think someone would raise the point: is the market inefficient enough to let you make money? Or you will lose it anyway, because of slippage, commissions, etc? Don't really agree with that, I just thought it was fair to point it out.

    Stocks are random variables

if we are talking about random walks his individual case study is absolutely significant, given that there is a high number of trials.
