Canyonman hasn't responded to this request yet... I really don't see how so many people out there can fall for all the slick marketing. Don't they realize that the worse the marketing (i.e. promises of riches, certain buzzword) the more likelihood that they are purchasing snake oil crap...

    Active Traders

There's absolutley no predictive value in technical analysis or indicators I think using the word "predict" is what makes the above statement true. However, I do not agree with the theme of the statement. Proper use of TA can help you define 100% mechanical setups that will provide you with...

canyonman00, If what you claim is true, why not post a personal trading statement? You can easily blackout all personal identification. Every vendor in the world could increase their sales 100x if they simply posted profitable trading statements. The "privacy" argument has no merit b/c...

Plenty more vendors who can't produce one year of profitable trading statements, yet will take your money in an instant teaching you everything they know.

So, I decided to write my own very basic program to download quotes from YAHOO and calculate standard deviations for whatever stock I want to trade. I then pipe that through a real-time filter and use IB's quote to send me a signal of when an option may be overpriced on underpriced based on...

    Turtletrader- Long-term Trend-Following

I took the Russell Sands course about 10 or so years ago. Trend following is great if you have the capital to properly diversify. You'll catch big trends somewhere that will make up for your losses. For position trading with a long-term perspective it's a good overall method. You won't make...

There are, but you can't do it with retail commissions, retail slippage, and retail execution. You'll find the occasional good arb as a retail trader, but you're better off trading with either a directional or volatility bias, IMO.

Jem, Good points. Not to mention that CTA in question was also the one in charge of the daily Ross faxes which had trade recommendations ("for educational purposes only") designed to teach trading the Ross way. Ross would not release past fax newsletters for independent review of their...

You'd be better off going with straight straddle in this situation... if you look at the risk reward on having both your bull & bear debit spread you probably wouldn't take the trade... at least I wouldn't. Despite the creativity that options give you, why not just trade the underlying with...

One of the problems with the chart you just showed is that you need 4 points in a channel before you can consider the probabilities of the trade. The local maxima is not in place yet. You are anticipating the top channel to be parallel to the bottom channel. Maybe IBM will go down, but after...

Babcock did indeed produce trading account statements for the systems he sold. That was one of the reasons, despite some of the controversy between him and Ed Hill and others, I read what he wrote. Yes he was controversial, but he also produced facts that can either be validated or disputed...

When do you want to stop this game? I have more archives than you can find on deja b/c most of the discussion started in late '91-92, long before threads you see on Deja... Here's one you conveniently didn't post from Gary Smith (I use Gary's comments because his comments are more...

Might as well reprint the entire thread. What about the prior 6 years of discussion from Usenet that deja doesn't have archived? Want me to send you my archives? Here is a relatively mild criticism (compared to the rest) but probably the one most can relate to because we all know who Ken...

That quote doesn't say that he who risks going to far necessarily fails. I think a more appropriate translation is more like:    Reach for the sky... as high as your risk will take you.

Even if we are still in a bear market, there are plenty of opportunities to trade both long and short. Some of the highest % plays are counter-trend plays b/c the majority of people are waiting for the correction!
