There is a time to write and a time to buy...a time for otm and atm... to decide to be only a writer can keep you from a wonderful opportunity to buy a cheap option and make a killing..... and NEVER to write will perhaps keep you from a high probability trade that will give you "pocket change"...

the point I was trying to get to is that in a spread (defined risk) I am short which at IB you cannot be in an IRA...no? My understanding is that at IB you cannot sell premium (uncovered by stock) which would include selling futures? I'm afraid I don't know enough to even ask an intelligent...

omcate thank you for the reply but I'm not sure who/what you mean by a counterparty .... Ex. I want to do a put spread on an option on ES..am I not long/short?

This may be a dumb question since I'm not familiar with futures trading but can you then "short" futures or options on futures? would not that involve borrowing?

ANY defined risk trade....Credit spreads, calendars, naked puts...only naked calls are not allowed at TOS which right now is the best broker if you want to trade options in your IRA. You cannot trade ES however anywhere in an IRA some sort of reg rule's...it may change I have no clue why you...

I don't believe in and IRA your can trade options on futures...I trade in our IRA spx option spreads

i cancel all the time (spx options) and haven't been charged a fee...is my broker eating it?

earlier today I did get filled on some of my calls...short 1320(1340long) but held back on putting them all on...I haven't a clue where the market will go the first two weeks of June and don't think anyone else does either:confused:

Hey mo...I'm still trying to understand what the advantage is to trading options on futures? I have my hands full trading options on the vanilla's:p

I would open an account at TOS and use their paper trade function to practice and learn the platform and once you have taken a few free classes then put on some very small spreads to get your feet wet.
