    Observations on the NYSE specialist.

Really? A perfect market is no market? Care to explain this? I thought a perfect, frictionless market is the orgasmic goal of capitalism. Don, the hostility is understandable since for many, many years the specialist system has been one through which a number of people enrich themselves due...

    Observations on the NYSE specialist.

There seem to be two camps to this whole issue. One camp is adamantly against the way the system is structured around specialists, saying that they abuse the authority and power given to them. While the other camp says, nudge, nudge, wink, wink, join in and get as much as you can along with the...

Bingo! Give the man a cigar! I've said it before too, but somehow he just evades and gets angry. That is the crux of the issue...all else is jibber-jabber.

    One Touch Backup?

Yeah, snooping around on the net, I've read that Maxtor's offering in this category is pretty much crap. But that doesn't mean that one touch back up is not a good way to go. Look at this: http://www.mirra.com/product/personal_server_features.html

    One Touch Backup?

Does anyone use these so called one touch back up, external HDD? apparently they use firewire making the trf of data very very fast. If you're using something like this for back up, let us know how it is going as well as which model, make, $$, etc. TIA

What 's the cost for an Hidden order?

Very strange. It should be the same comish. You might also want to look at iceberg orders: http://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/trading/orderTypesMatrix.php In any case, follow up with an email to help@interact.... and let us know how it turns out. I for one, would like to know what is...

Q re Using 2 Hard Drives

IMPORTANT UPDATE !! w00t ! ok now I just right clicked on the little icon space and must have clicked something since now it says 'Basic' instead of unknown (!) And now I have the option of partitioning it (its not greyed out anymore). But I'm curious now, what does is the...

Q re Using 2 Hard Drives

Well, take whatever I say with a grain of salt guys :p I'm not very tech savy. I said that it was set to master because that's what they told me they would do at the shop. That is, put the new drive in and keep the old one but set the new as master and old as slave.

Q re Using 2 Hard Drives

This is why I'm confused. As I mentioned, the new hard drive is empty right now. I'm trying to get it up and running but the partition choice on the right click menu is greyed out (?). What the heck does that mean?

Q re Using 2 Hard Drives

Thanks guys. The old one is IDE (NTFS) and the new one is SATA (prob will go with NTFS also). Here's the funny thing, I'm at the Computer Mgmt screen (using Win2000) and I go to Disk Mgmt and see the new drive - it is already set as master btw - but when I right click on it to create...

Q re Using 2 Hard Drives

I recently changed my motherboard and CPU (I also installed a new drive) and was pleasantly surprised to see that my old drive actually worked with them. I was told to expect that at best, I would only be able to use the data on the old drive but that nothing would run on it. But it seems...

Interactive Data to Acquire Lycos Inc.’s Quote.com

The reason why Qcharts is better than IB+QT is its hotlist capabilities. I'll say it again, IB made a HUGE blunder by not buying Qcharts. $30 mil is loose change for TimberHill and it would have catapulted them waaay ahead of their competition.

Interactive Data to Acquire Lycos Inc.’s Quote.com

Yeah, I can't understand why IB would spend so much time, money and energy on a billion dollar cancelled Refco bid, when they could have spend a tiny fraction of that and scooped up a product that would have catapulted them ahead of many other brokers. Can you imagine the integrated power of...

Interactive Data to Acquire Lycos Inc.’s Quote.com

That's interesting. Over at the QCharts Yahoo board, it is considered unanimously to be a positive development.

    a PROFESSIONAL trading site

I agree with Mark here. ET is what you bring to it and what you make of it - just like all other things in life. If you ignore the negatives and instead give reinforcement to the positives, then the board will slowly improve. I would second the suggestion to use the options Baron has give us...

    Real money blogs are censored.

I suppose its hip now to have a blog - so Cramer wants one. But since when is a blog behind a subscription firewall? In any case, Cramer hates being held accountable. He just wants to rant and rave and move on to his next rant and rave. He's way too busy to go back and revisit what he said...
