    stock trading: monthly return

Yes your return on capital invested (ROIC) was +300%. BTW that is a monthly figure so the annual rate is......loads. Your profit from operations was 17k / 300k = 5.6% pm which is good. Problem is, you are operating at 17.85 asset to borrowing ratio so you are in a high risk business. Just...

    place your bets

surely it's just shorts buying back in for the weekend. Or maybe, the mysterious plunge team are at work. Or, I don't have a clue. Perhaps Waxie decided to run it up a bit because he rules the freakin market.:D :D

    Highly selective trading

I'm not talking about jumping into a high risk market but rather playing longer term moves. I shorted the Q's at 37.9 not so many months ago because daily/weekly charts were clearly showing exhaustion. I havn't profited because I kept jumping in and out. If I just sat on my hands I would have...

    Highly selective trading

Yes it is. I think there is a difference between buy and hold and selective market attacks. EG. If you place long dated option trades when the VIX is at yearly extremes then you would make money. I'm trying to back test this now, although I know it intuitivley. For me, I have churned my...

    Trading Journal - June

I work for a major supplier to them so I need to be careful what I say. One of the major concerns with JDSU is that they outsource all of their production. They don't need to carry any inventory on their balance sheet, but, they will still be liable if they cut their own order books...

    Highly selective trading

Right, the same for me. If I stuck to the 1 or 2 days per month that the market is in high momentum mode, I would make much more money. I'm looking at that now. I know a trader who only puts on 2 or 3 big trades pa and his returns are awesome.

Glad you came back and said that you were lucky because when I looked at the chart I thought, this guy is either 100x luckier than I've ever been or he's paper trading.:D :D :D :D I would rather be lucky than good.

    stock trading: monthly return

Totally agree, which is why I prefaced it with 'in theory'. A lot of profitable businesses fail because of cash flow issues rather than lack of long term profitability. If you are over geared (margined) then you have no wriggle room. That is what will sink you. Cheers PS. I know, I've done...

    stock trading: monthly return

Allow me. There are two points being discussed on this thread regarding margin. Return on Invested Capital (ROIC) is how much you make in a period on the money that you invested. Therefore margin is not counted. Profit. This is how much you make from your operations including...

    DOW Crashing ?!

Don't know about their daily activity, but all governments including the Fed have the capability (and use it) to support markets. These are often referred to as 'them' or 'the Turks'. This was a point I made earlier in the thread. The Dow can go down a long way but it aint gonna melt down. It...

To all non-resident alien prof daytraders

I'm living in the Netherlands, trading with Bright. Oliver [/B] I'm in the UK and was considering remote trading with Bright or another, how do you find it? Do they allow you the same leverage as on site traders? I have already asked my accountant about the tax status. He is looking into...
