    THat hot HOusing Market....

A very interesting read, given all that has transpired in the 11 years since it was written. It was a bit early -- we all were. We seem to underestimate just the extremes to which a "mass mind" can go.

Home prices have really gone up the last few months.

This is interesting to me because I wrote somewhere on this site, way back in the early days, that gov't would end up being the largest property owner in the US. Mouths of babes and all.

obama admits he is a socialist

I am retracting the following: In the first place, it's rude, however true. In the second, there were only three votes in, one by the thread-starter, another by either his friend or his alias, and the other by me. It was clear that, as the response sample grew in size, the truth would be...

obama admits he is a socialist

Conservatism is really neither left nor right, despite oft-repeated associations. Some who are conservative in their convictions consider themselves "right" because they have never been exposed to a healthy definition of conservatism nor been offered an alternative description of such...

Open source command line linux portfolio backtesting

just type that in and see if it works. Pardon the interruption, btw.

Home prices have really gone up the last few months.

Totally. The real strength of the market -- the middle class -- is not there, forbidden by restrictive credit requirements. Housing is not a market. It's a buyers club.

obama admits he is a socialist

I didn't see Communist or Spawn of Satan as options, so.... And as for the results (currently 2:1 against) , the delusional population is known to be higher among traders, young adult males, and those who post to internet message boards, so no surprise there.

New ActiveX Excel trading program released by IB...

IIRC, DDE is aged and slow. Might even be obsolete on some platforms. FIX is the standard, which would use a FIX engine -- there was one that I believe was DDE for excel -- I downloaded a demo years ago and I don't recall it ever working. Disclaimer: I didn't realize this was an IB thread...

That's the "recipe for success" for most people.

    Series 56 - LOL Thread

sigh. I've had more licenses expire than I can recall. Lost count of how many times I've passed the 7. The 55 was by far the worst, but I hear the 56 is a b-eye-tee-see-ache. Anyway, I think it's important that you know how markets are supposed to be organized. Even if they aren't that way...

Who here trades index futures for a living?

You should get an award just for that. The Russell -- that's ICE (formerly FINEX) right? I used to work in the DX, right next door. The Russell was tiny and sleepy (even more so than the DX). I'm curious, are you net long/short or do you do fancier things?

    "lunchtime chop?" lol

lunchtime is sloooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwww-moooooooooooooooootioooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. you have to watch that you don't trade against yourself. proving again, incidentally, that markets are neither mechanical nor mathematical. They are social. Deal with it. And don't let some stinkin'...

Excel and FIX for algo autotrading

I've done this on TT XTrader, but it's expensive. You might be able to get a demo. But TT is geared more for industry professionals -- meaning, if you're not licensed and active, they might not talk to you. I'll bet some of the front-end packages advertised on this site might be available to...

Excel and FIX for algo autotrading

vba is awesome. it's also slow, although it is faster than using sheet-level functions or, say, a pencil and calculator. C++ is lightning -- esp where complex computations are involved. Just be aware that the big money is using C++ and direct connections. If that kind of time frame isn't...

Guy says when I place a trade, someone else goes short that position, is this true?

this is why schwab and td want your business - it's order flow they not only don't have to pay for, you pay them to take it.

Guy says when I place a trade, someone else goes short that position, is this true?

This is how it all began: If a dealer is shorting a stock to fill an order, he's hedging his short in options. He is not net short, or he wouldn't be a dealer for long. Life is better for a dealer if he can cross the order, but, being gravy, it is not the main course. They'll buy it if...

    Hold Bros

Well, ain't that a coincidence, cuz you're not really giving an answer. seems like I remember doing this dance with you the last time I asked a simple question on this forum. I'm sure I don't need to make the concept of "straight story" any clearer for most. I hope.
