    trading--Gamble or Serious Job

no risk in opening a subway. long term investment. real estate never goes down. some subway coo will never embezzle firm funds forcing them into bankruptcy leaving you with a worthless franchise. People never get botulism from cold cut assembly lines and mayonaise. quizno's will never open...

    background of trader

liltrdr said it well. why you wanna pick on prop traders? they buy, sell, and pay commissions just like everyone else. when i traded futures retail (way back when), I knew I was considered to be at the bottom of the food chain. You have to start somewhere. Prop firms put you in front of...

I wanna be a Bright trader HELP

One wonders, doesn't one, about the command of logic held by someone who doesn't know where to put an apostrophe? One day I woke up and saw myself leaving them everywhere...a falling tide lowers all boats...

    Anybody making any real $$$???

liquidity is cyclical. and like it or lump it, this entire generation of traders has nursed at the breasts of easy money (that is, money supply). Throw in a manic bull market, and we've all become fat. It's natural to think we're good, but a rising tide lifts all boats. It's not wise 'to...

Easy profits - what a joke

I recently received an email solicitation for a Larry Williams thing. I know some people like him...I don't know him. He lives in Montana, so he can't be all bad. Anyway, it's amazing what a skilled promoter he is.

    Emini trading!

if i trade emini intrady through one of the aforementioned brokers, who takes the other side of my trade -- I don't mean who, personally, but which exchange? The reason I ask is that forex firms are popping up and I think they are the counterparties, and that their quotes are not necessarily...

    Why Nyse stocks ?????

tntneo, thank you for the info. Do you ever get buried? How often? Do you hedge? This fascinates me. cesko, what, exactly, do you mean by nothing beyond the Bell Curve?

    trading--Gamble or Serious Job

Mike makes a good point. There is such a thing as 'wealth creation,' which 'zero-sum' types need to consider. An ear of corn can father how many? The only limitations are soil, weather, predators, and how well the husbandman does his job. Wealth creation is a natural law and cannot be...

    trading--Gamble or Serious Job

I see a connection here. I am amazed when I see a 10,000 trial simulated coin toss. It can resemble the 5 year daily spooz. It teaches me that even a 'random' process can run in streaks. So, the 'gambler' in the quote has to take steps to walk away. And so, business runs in cycles...

    Why Nyse stocks ?????

tntneo: would you say your are bidding and offering most of the time, then, as opposed to take the offers and hitting the bids? If you're contratrend, I suppose you can get filled on price improvement too...I want to ask more. This is not the same as top/bottom picking, correct?

    trading--Gamble or Serious Job

it has a large element of semantics, though. All traders are either taking on or laying off risk at some point in the trade.

Roumeo, price movements are less random over longer time periods (to an extent). This would indicate that the edge goes in favor of the long term trader, not against.
