MLNM - high volume, moving nowhere

When the buyout is an (almost) certain deal, most companies trade like that. It's really not strange at all.

    Market maker plays games.

Nasdaq runs their own closing and opening cross in NYSE/AMEX stocks now. The specialist close vs. the nasdaq close can be vastly different. Could that be what you're seeing?

    Uptick rule

There was no empirical evidence that the uptick test had any positive results. Also, like was said... It was easy to short on a down tick anyway. You could short all you wanted on a down tick simply by routing to ARCA.

    Dark Pool Liquidity

When I trade with Goldman's book, it prints as NASDAQ instantly. If I route to EDGX/EDGA, who then pings dark books, it will print Cincinnati. Watch your level II vs. the prints and you might be able to pick out where the dark books are.

    Market Inefficiencies via ECN Systems

This is one of those areas where the people that know how to do it are not going to share it with you.

Why the SEC abolished the shorting uptick-rule on an election year?

Because there was no empirical data showing that the tick test had any positive effect.

NYSE Arca Routes to Dark Liquidity Pools

Any ideas how this will affect the NASDAQ opening/closing crosses? Will the other books now interact with the cross?

Can you places a order marked hidden liquity on IB?

On your 5000 share order, your 200 will have priority over any visible orders that come after. Visible liquidity that is posted after your "iceberg" order will have priority over the hidden portion.

Difficulty to be the best bid or best offer

If he had 100 showing on ARCA and more reserve size, and you come in with 1000 showing, it works like this: His 100 showing will get priority over your 1000, however, after getting filled for his showing 100, his reserve is automatically at the back of the line. The next 1000 shares will be...

    Identifying bid/ask of retail traders

If you are bidding/offering on a direct access platform, choosing what ECN to use, your order on BATS/ARCA/EDGX looks exactly like mine. The specialist is a mindless computer program.

Difficulty to be the best bid or best offer

If you're talking about stocks, this is not correct. If you have a bid for 1000 shares on ARCA, for example, at 100.00 and a 10,000 order joins you, you will get filled for your 1000 before the other guy gets anything. If he joins the bid on a different ECN or on his MMID, then it depends...

    Trade The News....AWFUL

My office uses the Global Equities audio service, and I have no complaints. I listen to the S&P pit and enjoy that service, as well as their commentary. Though I don't use it, I have looked at the news headlines module before, and have noticed it being quite a bit slower than the audio...

    Anvil problems this morning?

I trade from the the Chicago office. We have absolutely huge bandwidth that isn't even remotely close to being maxed out. We still have problems. As I type this message, they just flushed all ARCA quotes and Market Makers. Connection is not the issue.

    Consistancy is for Looosers

The best trader I know is extremely consistent. Every single day he's up $4k-$7k. He'll have maybe one down day/quarter. A couple times/quarter he'll put up $100,000+ days. Another extremely profitable trader in my office will swing +/- $40k daily, with the monster days mixed in...

    Anvil problems this morning?

I trade from the Chicago office. We had no BATS for the first part of the day. We currently have no ARCA. Yesterday at the close I was crossing .50 through just to get fills. During any kind of volume spike the displayed inside market in Level II becomes completely worthless. The guys in...

Place after hours market order through IB

Unless you're trading something extremely liquid, you're going to be paying a multiple dollar spread afterhours.
