    FINALLY passed TopstepTrader's Combine!

To provide full transparency, TST just has to do the following: Show the balance of each live "funded" trader on Day 10 with reference to the combine traded.

    FINALLY passed TopstepTrader's Combine!

Yes, one must pass the combine/FTP with enough profits to satisfy the "10 day rule" or it's just a training exercise. At least you were able to earn your way to the live account, and if that improves your retail account P&L moving forward, then it's still a positive experience, even though you...

Three separate firms (Cy Trading, and Trader2B)

You seem to have already researched Trader2B, so you know they are charging you $250 to trade in a SIMULATOR, with no evidence of live traders. Regarding Cy, they are using a workaround of the capital contribution rules required of a broker-dealer by saying it's not a contribution, but rather a...

Trading short and ultra short etfs

Yes, it means if the price of the ETF goes up then it's a PROFIT if you bought it, since the underlying securities within the ETF went down. You are in essence "shorting" the securities by going LONG the ETF. Remember, however, that these are DAYTRADE vehicles only, as indicated by the...

Can somebody please educate me on where US Debt comes from?

    FINALLY passed TopstepTrader's Combine!

He seemed to know the rules, yet was upset at not having made his goal of reaching a $2,000-2,500 target in the live account during the "10 day rule." However, he traded the 30k combine, and made slightly over $1,200 within the first 10 days in the live account. He mentions taking a $200+...

    VRX Valeant Pharmaceuticals

I wonder if Ackman is still touting "discount to intrinsic value" on this turd, now that it's dropped from $196 (his original cost basis) to today's gap down and low around $14.

    SFG Trading: The Full Scoop

They probably incur costs of running the live data, even in sim, however it's probably far less than $250/month they are collecting. If they cannot provide evidence of LIVE traders, then it's a front to collect the software fees, and your assumptions are correct.

    FINALLY passed TopstepTrader's Combine!

Pekelo, I saw the blog you mentioned. Here's the update, according to the blog: "Unfortunately I have lost my top step account, time to go back to the drawing board. Despite my extremely poor performance in the Topstep account I still believe I have a profitable trading methodology, its just...

    ETF fees newbie question

"When you day trade"... Yes, the key words are "day trade" and since you aren't becoming a beneficial owner (by holding the ETF), you only have to worry about commissions. Some ADR's will price at above/below their NAV, and if you held then in a sense you're paying a "fee" for buying it at a...

Its impossible to be profitable in trading as a retail trader

Good point. Fees can certainly erode gains, even with the "buy and hold" type. Bogle's commentary is fairly critical regarding not only fees but also the trading commissions one will incur over the course of their trading career. This is why he constantly stresses index investing (via...

    Topsteptrader

But wait a minute! The trader isn't putting up any margin in the backed account. So the entire TST model would have to change, whereby the backer is now willing to place the excess capital that CME requires for overnight margin PLUS take on the risk of any potential adverse event. I can see...

Well that's true, stocks can gap up or down on news, whereas the futures will continue trading throughout the Globex session. The ES recently hit the 5% "limit down" threshold but it wasn't a gap, since it traded down to the halt, before resuming and rallying back up. Some futures markets are...

Its impossible to be profitable in trading as a retail trader

Jack Bogle (founder of Vanguard) has said numerous times on various media and print, the "buy and hold" strategy will outperform most active managers and investors over the long term. Here's a good article regarding Bogle and some commentary regarding index investing...

While I understand why TST restricts overnights, as that puts them at unknown risk due to a gap event, I agree with your point regarding limiting lot size, at least in the beginning. That's why the "scale up" is so important, and would make sense to have that limitation in the combine.

    Well stated.

    FINALLY passed TopstepTrader's Combine!

The smaller combines are training exercises. If one is going to pass through the 10 day live account stage, then only the larger combines favor the odds of building enough equity.

    FINALLY passed TopstepTrader's Combine!

I fully agree, IF one is able to maintain the discipline to trade on another simulator and self enforce TST's rule. In fact, you can get a free AMP sim for two weeks, and do that with multiple vendors first.
