How long (after open) does it take for ES & the big S&P contract to sync up?

The ES moves overnight and the pit session opens at 9:30. How long does it take them to sync up? And does the ES sync to the pit or vice versa? I don't have a data feed for the pit so it's hard for me to tell.

    Index futures vs. Leveraged ETFs

If you don't need the leverage then ETFs are good. SSO gives you 2x the return of SPY. If you like leverage but not as much as futures, you're not obligated to use it all. For example if you have $60k to invest, you can buy 1 ES contract and put the rest in a money market fund or another...

    Index futures vs. Leveraged ETFs

This is an excellent point. I hadn't thought of that.

    Index futures vs. Leveraged ETFs

If closing the position is the worst case then that's fine with me. I was worried I'd have a guy banging on my door with a truck full of commodities. :) I do have calendar software but I was more worried about when I'm traveling or something like that. It's probably not an issue really...

    Index futures vs. Leveraged ETFs

What happens if we forget? In the case of S&P, do we end up with 1 share of each company in our account? ;) Or even worse, Gold. Would gold bars be arriving at my door? I've actually googled for this and couldn't find out what happens. Thank you very much for the detailed reply. I...

    Index futures vs. Leveraged ETFs

From what I see the margin for ES is $2k. $2k to control $64k is not bad. With SSO, $2k will control $4k worth. Is this correct? I'm waiting for a pullback on the S&P before adding to my position. I think I will buy 1 ES contract instead of more SSO. From what I read IB has an...

    IB TWS P&L wrong

The positions with which I noticed the problem were in fact held more than 1 day. I think it is a problem with multi-day holds. I'm glad to know it's just TWS that is wrong and that I'm not losing money on it.

    IB TWS P&L wrong

In my case I was looking at the realized P&L on the portfolio tab, after the market close. Next time it happens I will look in the account window to see if it's correct.

    IB TWS P&L wrong

    I've seen it both ways.

    IB TWS P&L wrong

Thanks for the info. Have you verified that your statements are correct? I will do so tomorrow. It's a shame their P&L is incorrect. How hard could it be to get that right? I keep everything in an excel journal but still, I only update it after close.

    IB TWS P&L wrong

885.7, should be the latest or the avant latest. I always upgrade when prompted.

    IB TWS P&L wrong

Several days now I've noticed that the P&L reported by IB's TWS is incorrect. I keep a journal in excel and I'm finding descepencies daily. Today I had a profit of $1200 and IB says I have a profit of $900. looking at the daily change it was up $600 so that doesn't explain it. I'm kind...

    Index futures vs. Leveraged ETFs

This is for a long term hold and I'm quite bullish on the S&P long term. I didn't think of the expenses, that's a very good point. I'm thinking a 60k investment in SPY, 30k in the SSO, or 1 ES contract, it should all be about the same. Can the ES be rolled over before it expires? is it...

    Index futures vs. Leveraged ETFs

I've got a position in SSO which is a 2x leveraged ETF for the S&P 500. I'm curious what are the pros and cons of leveraged ETFs versus futures? For me I'm using the ETF simply because it's in my fidelity account and they don't do futures. I keep my IB account for day trading. However if...

Where to get industry group charts

This is correct, it's around $300. But you'd have to type the symbols into another chart package to see the individual stocks. I find it goes much faster when using their stock graphs as well. It's around $700. So that makes $1000 and you get the screener for free.

Where to get industry group charts

I signed up for a 7 day trial at IBD for their industry groups package. I thought it'd take twice as long to go through twice as many industry groups, but in fact it goes quicker because their software is so good. Then finding a list of stocks in the industry is just a click away. With the...

Where to get industry group charts

Very cool, thank you very much! I can't get the symbols to pull up with Fidelity or IB, but I can get them at stockcharts.com so I may sign up for an account there.

Where to get industry group charts

I'm looking for industry group charts. I've analyzed the 9-10 sectors and now I'd like to refine my analysis to industry groups. I see IBD has a package for this but it's $1k/year. I don't really want to sign up for a year, I'm not even sure where this is going or if it's even going to...

NinjaTrader vs OpenQuant for automated trading

I'm wondering the same thing. I plan to implement a really simple strategy, something that doesn't even work say ma crossover, and try testing it with ninjatrader and my ib paper account. If that works then i'd be interested in investing in NT. I tried openquant and although I must admit...

IB's paper trading can't process order

I get it too and I'm still trying to figure it out. I think it has something to do with running TWS twice on the same machine or even different machines with same account. I like to do real trades + sim trades. I'm still trying to figure it out.
