Appreciate your response. I wasn't worried so much about my own situation as much as i was in understanding what overtrading really means. I really havn't given it much though until recentlly and this thread has given me a much better understanding of the different angles everyone sees it...

lol....I hate those "phantom trades" I swear my setup was there when i traded it but when i go back to look for it after hours because it ate me alive i can never find it.

Thats what i thought. My personal definition for overtrading always was higher frequency due to trading outside a plan. Now that you mention it though the article was about money managment. I might have misread, misunderstood and got confused.

Would you define it as trading too large a percentage of your account or trading too frequentlly or both? I always assumed it meant trading too frequentlly but i read an article today that defined it by example as trading too high a percentage of account size for any given trade.

I appreciate your clarification Jim. What can we do as traders to protect ourselves? Split our cash between two or more brokers?

If you had a small account with refco under 500k what would have happened to your money? Is it locked up and unobtainable until everything settles down or could it be withdrawn, transferred etc?

im starting to wonder if spybot still updates its free program. iv'e been using it for a couple years and it hasn't updated in at least a year on my pc. could be bugged or auto update is broken but check to see if its a current version.

will that apply strictly to business or retail customers as well? If not do you think theres any chance of them applying the same idea to retail customers as well ?

I have noticed mixed results when the tick takes a heavy dive in one direction or the other to +-800 in one three minute bar. Iv'e noticed that ES follows at times and at other times its a reversal and a continuation back in the original direction or it takes a heavy bounce after dropping a bit...

yeah i tried different tick time frames as well and i found 3 minute seemed to be a good compromise for my sytle of trading. seemed to be less noise for me and easier to pick up nyse commitment. Ive also found it a valuable timeframe for spotting trends.

yeah...i have been using 5 min ES chart with a 3 min tick and am very happy with it so far although iv'e only been using this setup for 3 weeks or so. The advantage im fiding is you get almost two tick bars inbetween every 5 min ES bar so im finding that alot of times you get an opportunity...
