Guy drives his car for 870K miles

Well, dandxg, to every rule there's an exception. Hyundai very recently outdid Toyota in the JD Power new owner survey in fewer problems reported per vehicle. Part of the credit goes to a new manufacturing plant in Alabama. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2006606080400

what are your views on the impact of terrorism on world economy?

The actual cost of terrorism to the world economy has been trivial. The cost of Bush's exploitation of the fear of terrorism, OTOH, has cost the American taxpayer hundreds of billions of dollars.

LMAO - Turn up your speakers!!

I am so disappointed. I thought his "Payroll Trading System" meant he could teach you how to trade using other people's paychecks. :)

When will the highest forclosure rate be?

Foreclosure rate is not a function of real estate pricing. Foreclosures correlate well with unemployment and layoffs. With the current boom in no-down ARM mortgages, foreclosure rates will also likely be correlated to increases in interest rate indices. For the first time we may see a surge in...

Etfs or closed end funds that short?

I think that's what stocon is saying... are there any ETFs or CEFs that you can buy to short the market. Not yet. But they are on the way. http://www.smartmoney.com/etffocus/index.cfm?story=20060607

    Does price gouging exist?

Your former professor is wrong. Price gouging exists. I think of price gouging as taking advantage of shortages of human necessities where profits come at the expense of human suffering. Your professor may not come to grips with price gouging because it is more of a moral issue as opposed to...

    Is Chairmen Bernake Incompetent?

Is Chairman Bernanke Incompetent? yes 41 61.19% no 26 38.81% I don't know what the "yes" voters are thinking here. He hasn't been in office long enough for anyone to objectively weigh his competency.

    New Leveraged ProShares ETFs Coming

I think these ETFs will be a success. There are many traders in IRA's and 401(k) accounts who want to short the market but can't due to IRS and exchange regulations. I'm willing to bet that at least one of the short ETFs will crack the top 10 in average daily volume among all ETFs.

MasterCard Ipo, Bank of China Ipo, and etc sucking up all the liquidity

mahram's question is a good one. Think about it. If you're running a mutual fund and you've only got 4% cash reserves, you've got to sell off some holdings to buy a big IPO. Some observers ascribed the summer '04 dip in the Nasdaq as freeing up capital for the Google IPO. Look at the charts and...

the solution to illegal immigration is to get rid of the minimum wage

The solution to illegal immigration is to increase the minimum wage and implement a strong enforcement program against employers who hire illegals. Increasing the wage, along with a decrease in the hiring of day labor caused by strong enforcement, will create an incentive for immigrants to want...

    Comments on INTC?

I agree. INTC is in a world of hurt. From a T/A standpoint the chart is horrible. The Sept '04 $20 support level has been broken and did not hold. The next major support level is $15, based on the Jan '03 low. Analysts have been slashing estimates. 2007 consensus has been cut from 1.85 to...

    Where is the top?

You're right, QQQShort. VIX is not a perfect indicator (what indicator is?), but it's been fairly reliable. Low VIX, market top; high VIX, market bottom. There have been exceptions -- I think in the 90's VIX slowly climbed along with the bull market.

    Where is the top?

tubytrader: You do have a factor working in your favor -- VIX at 10.95 today, there's not a lot of room for the market to go up much before VIX hits long-term support at 10.1. Also, gold and oil look poised to go higher.

    Where is the top?

Interest rates are still low and reasonable, they aren't high enough to really hurt the economy or the market. From 1995 to 1999 the average Fed Funds Rate was 5.5%. During that time there was a powerful bull market. The market top in 2000 came when the rate hit about 6.5%. In this context, the...

    zero sum game?????????????

Ha! You people are all wrong. The stock market is rarely ever a zero sum game. In bull markets the liquidity and capitalization of the entire market is increasing. During capitalization expansions there does not have to be a loser for every winner. Likewise, during bear markets, liquidity and...

Economic implications of being in Iraq/Iran/ Afghanistan beyond 2008

In economic terms, the Iraq War is a good investment: $250 bil war cost / 110 bil bbls oil = $2.27 per barrel, or about 4% of the current world price. We don't have to "steal" the oil to "win" -- a stable, secular government is all we need to secure the supply. That mission is far from...
