Can I hear about your worst trades ever?? Everyone will freely talk about their best ones...

I remember Thornburg mortgage... not fondly. And some adjusted options contracts that looked too good to be true.

    Alternatives to IB?

I haven't seen many people offering better margin rates than IB out there. You can get free stock trades from some of the startups like Robinhood, but I'll take IBs execution over theirs any day, and you might even earn a net rebate from time to time.

Do I Need to Pay Margin Interests If I Offset the Excess Longs with Shorts?

In principle, you would also earn some interest on the credit balance in Type 3 from the short proceeds. In practice, with low interest rates and after deducting what costs might be involved to borrow the short shares, there's usually not a credit amount on the short side.

    Greatpoint Capital

Heard someone was long too much XIV or similar in the vol blowup. Sounds like they survived as a firm, not sure about cutbacks.

Shortly before Trump announced tariffs, former adviser Carl Icahn dumped millions in steel-related s

He should have tighter stops - any time in the last 6 months would have been better, and here he is down almost 50% off the highs. Plus, I have no idea how he saw these tariffs coming.

    IBKR

As a trader, I find IB to be way way ahead of the rest of the retail (and much of the semi-pro) field of brokers. eveyone else is a far distant second or worse. That's when I bought IBKR stock, although clearly not enough.

Reuters: "Indian bourses to stop licensing index, stock prices to foreign exchanges"

That seems really dumb. Are they going to keep their stock prices secret to all foreigners? Seems impossible in this Internet age. Plus a foreign country is running the futures exchange so what are you going to do if they just keep using their own Pretty Nifty index that uses the same top 50...

    Fixed Income Forum

There have been a few threads, for example this one on distressed debt (very distressed!). https://elitetrader.com/et/threads/distressed-debt-investing.297477/ You could always just start a thread in Trading or Journals and see if people want to show up. I don't do much with bonds but I've...

Which were some brokers with technical problems during this week of market chaos with high volume?

Data outages are bad, but not nearly as bad as not being able to access the broker site or software at all. It helps to have market data to be able to trade, but you can use a free site or another broker to get market data in a pinch (or if you're too cheap to pay IB for it) and still place...

Which were some brokers with technical problems during this week of market chaos with high volume?

Yes, lots of brokers had problems. No problems with IB here either however. https://www.investopedia.com/news/trading-volume-temporarily-takes-merrill-edge-down-tuesday/ Fidelity had several problems...

How is an XIV lawsuit even possible?

The fund behaved as it was supposed to, tracking its index. The fact the index lost 95% is bad, but the investors bought it and should have known it was a risk since all those risks were laid out in the prospectus if they read it. Of course they'll get sued. It's America - you can sue people...

    Options assignment lotteries

Thank you to everyone who responded. I never did figure out how or why this happened, but with the recent market down, I've been happy to hold my short position even if it didn't go my way initially after the assignment.

About daytrading BP and nonmarginable securities

No, hence the "non marginable" part. I don't know any brokers offering margin for OTC stocks, although I'd be open to suggestions.

    Options assignment lotteries

Mine isn't like that, but yes, the brokerage can do either FIFO or some type of random (whatever they decided as their policy). Interesting, thanks. You don't think it went in my favor if I care this much? :) The stock was down a little premarket where I failed to cover, and then ran up a...

    Options assignment lotteries

IB's assignment process will give all but the first and last account chosen full assignment. https://www.interactivebrokers.com/download/option_exercise_disclosure.pdf You have the same odds, but it's more or less an "all or nothing" thing in terms of assignment. This makes it hard to tell...
