Thanks for posting this, they have more significant oil assets than I had realized. To provide a bit further background on Encana, they have largely been focusing for the past couple of years on selling of non-natural gas assets, as well as non-North American assets. Their overall goal is to...

Sorry, not trying to nitpick, but it's worth mentioning that Encana is a natural gas play, not an oil stock.

Good news (for me) - if all goes well, it looks like I should have a much more in depth (if primarily academic) understanding of options by the end of the Fall semester. I'm doing a course on risk management this Fall, and a full half of the class covers options, here is a sampling of topics...

difference between spot and futures price

Update, just got home from work and checked my "Investments" text (aka "the Finance Bible" hehe), here is the formula for the relationship between the forward (future) price and the current exchange price: F = E[(1+Rdom/1+Rfor)^t] Where: F = forward price E = current exchange rate...

    What happened to UBET today?

P.S. If you're looking for a good play based particularly on fundamentals, I might recommend researching CV Technologies a bit, they trade on the Canadian Venture Exchange, ticker is CVQ. You can find detailed financials on Canadian companies at www.sedar.com (very, very nice, not to mention...

    What happened to UBET today?

To be quite honest, I have to say that on technicals alone, the chart doesn't look terribly appealing to me right now, but it could be soon. I've posted about my thinking before on the forums, but I've noticed that I've started to think more and more in terms of probabilities when I look at...

difference between spot and futures price

I can't really comment on the largest difference, but as the previous poster mentioned, the difference between the future price and spot price is a function of time and interest rates. I'm taking a risk management class this fall, where I will have the great pleasure of calculating this...

    Publishing Stocks Under-valued

Next question to ask is - why is the market discounting these stocks?

NYT Article: In the Long Run, Sleep at Home and Invest in the Stock Market

My only beef about dividends is that it generally speaking isn't terribly cost effective to reinvest them unless you: a) have extremely low brokerage commissions b) have significant enough self-directed capital that the dividends are sizeable enough that commissions are minimal or c)...

    Big SELLOFF Coming

To the posters that state that the issue of new shares isn't a problem, doesn't the chart show otherwise? Generally speaking it looks to me like the upwards move peaked out mid to early July, perhaps there was some knowledge out there that this move was coming? (Not getting into conspiracy...

    For Directional traders

Just checked the chart, no news today, looks like the stock had been leveling out/consolidating around $70 for a couple of weeks, and has now made a strong upwards move on good volume, looks good to me technically, particularly if there is follow-through.

I have a suggestion about this particular strategy. If you are concerned about the potential for a big market dip, wouldn't it be a better idea to invest in some cheap puts for something like QQQQs? The reason I say this is that you are operating under the assumption that a bearish market...

    For Directional traders

Not trying to be a backseat trader (hehe), but I'm curious about a couple of things regarding NFLX. My first question is - why December calls specifically? I'm currently showing: Dec 22.5 - $1.95 Jan 22.5 - $2.10 Mar 22.5 - $2.45 The Jan call offers 25% longer time to be right for...

    For Directional traders

Well, I'm not about to say "I told you so", and neither am I a seasoned investor/trader, but I will say that I have made the mistake of adding to a losing position more than once, and I don't think that it has ever worked out well in the long-term. At this point I've decided to never make...

    Anyone else playing TMTA today?

FV = Fundamental value? If so, I'm sorry, but TMTA is likely worth far more at this point than $1.00/share. TMTA posted a $0.04/shr profit for Q2. If this were to continue without any further revenue growth, forward looking P/E would be ~10.7 based on todays close at $1.71. Trailing 12 month...

Adding to a loser, averaging down, etc. is generally a very bad idea, I think you should always wait to be in the green before you look at adding to a position.

Hi Palawan, Please keep up the posts about your options trading, they are worth the read. As for myself, exited my TMTA position today at $2.11 for a gain of roughly 120% (my first double), felt that the stock was nearing a short-term peak (particularly with the big spike in volume)...

    Anyone else playing TMTA today?

I sold my entire position fairly close to the level you did (I exited at $2.11). Keep in mind that I have an extremely small trading account (I'm a uni student), so scaling doesn't make sense. Overall gain = 120% (my first double). My justification for doing so was that volume was really...

    Anyone else playing TMTA today?

Well, I'm honestly fairly stunned, TMTA is up another 20% as I write this, on another very high volume day. Chart is pretty much going vertical, but I have yet to see a sell signal (aside from looking pretty overbought), just keeps moving up, consolidating, ramping up some more, etc.

Thanks. TASR calls went up quite a bit the past couple of days (nice little jump in the underlying), but I was also wrong about NVDA earnings - they had a very strong quarter during a quarter that is often weak for them. As for TMTA, yikes, it's up about another 13% as I write this.
