    New prop regulations?

Why all of a sudden my firm is not allowed to change buying power, share max, but has to go through the clearing firm (penson)? Is this across the board? I was told this was a new SEC regulation.

    2011: Rebuilding My Battered Account

Edge or no, it's one thing to trade intraday with 10k capital and another with 500k. Someone willing to lose 20k on any given position will attract alot more attention than someone else willing to lose just 500.

    "Scaling out" is inferior behavior

Maybe this is correct for how you trade in your particular market, but it's obvious you don't trade equities against the hft programs out there. Exiting a profitable position all at once is highly inferior vs scaling out here.

    2011: Rebuilding My Battered Account

What I'm wondering is: how does neke trade with such abandon, throwing caution to the wind on so many occasions -- and yet has never held any position overnight? From what I see he is almost always long options, so I don't believe margin is an issue here. To be so reckless at times in...

    Prop Trader Journal

I just think nasdaq stocks are more straightfoward, with a non-centralized tape being more "honest" than a specialist holding most of the cards. My overall experience is that listed tends to be more choppy, if you want a broad anectdotal generalization. JMO.

    Prop Trader Journal

Funny, I've always found nasdaq stocks easier to read than listed.

    What happened to "theproptrader"'s thread?

Just wondering what happened to the thread (and the post I made). I thought I was making a good point man!

Why Fat is the Preferred Fuel for Human Metabolism

I started a pretty intense boot camp exercise regime for the past year (in place of running 15-20 miles a week), I really didn't notice much change in my body until this past month, when I started to focus on my diet and what I ate. The biggest change I made was to focus more on eating...

Blackjack player beats 3 Atlantic City Casinos for $15.1M

So this guy had a max bet of 100k? Did he have a relative minimum bet? I thought the one biggest disadvantage (outside the game rules) against the player vs the house was the max bet limit.

Where are the TRUE Prop Trading firms?

But seriously, why bother going "true" prop if you are already successful? Besides 50% of your profits, what else do you need to give away for such a deal? A firm covering your losses is not worth much at all -- you're consistently profitble, correct?. A salary? Same thing. Sure I can see...

    Questions for experienced daytraders

Say 1 out of 100 actors hit the big time in hollywood, talking 7 figures annual. So the average salary of an aspiring actor is X. If your target is to make twice as much as your fellow actor, work 2 times as hard. If you want to just be average, you can also choose to work twice as hard but...

How much data is one day's worth of ticks?

How much data does one download over the course of a single session (say 3 or 4 mm boxes w/ time&sales)? I am looking at 2 different wifi hotspot services, one is faster but is capped at 5 GB a month, the other is probably half the speed but unlimited. This is just for use with my laptop...

smaller size makes you a better trader?

Do you realize how easily one can overstep one's edge with just a simple increase in position size? People still greatly overestimate liquidity in certain markets and time-frames.

smaller size makes you a better trader?

To answer the OP: smaller size is just outright easier to trade. Size vis-a-vis liquidity (and/or lack thereof) plays a huge factor, especially on shorter time frames -- never underestimate the impact (im)proper position size will have on your trading results. Psychological issues...

    Going fulltime dilemma

I have to fully agree with the above. Another question that hasn't been addressed is the profile (for lack of a better term) of your profitability. You've made 100k over the last 4 months -- but what was the time frame, over how many trades and over how many markets/stocks? Are you...

Anyone trading with a profit objective of $100 A WEEK?

You can't get a little bit pregnant. Either you lose consistently or win consistently; and if the latter, you don't settle for small profits for long. You are better off just betting everything in one shot on some news event, hopefully double your account, then close it down. If you lose...

Random buying and selling, and day trading

Speed or any other form of edge does NOT refute the concept that the market is random, as some posters seem to feel. The fact that some traders are profitable while others or not has nothing to do with the reality or perception of randomness. The market is EDGE versus non-EDGE. At any...
