    crude options

While my experience in other products is limited I'm under the impression that there's a lot more activity in cross-product spread options in energy than in other asset classes? Sure, they can list vanilla options electronically and there will be some interest but the majority of those...

    crude options

Energy options won't be traded electronically for quite some time, if ever. Why? They're too complex. Most energy option trades are spreads, often complex spreads, not the vanilla variety that interest the average retail trader. Add the term structure/seasonality that vary by product and it...

    Nat Gas Mini

It's common for producers, most others operate under standard ISDAs, NAESBs, etc. Interesting background...Given your experience is mainly on the funds sides your views make sense. Yeah, I trade on behalf of producers, distributors, large end users, etc.

    Nat Gas Mini

Correct, it can happen more than just at settlement (assuming the market moves beyond the credit threshold) but I was just trying to make the point that people often trade OTC to avoid the day to day cash flow swings w/ futures...I agree regarding thresholds, etc but I wasn't going to get into...

    Nat Gas Mini

Both credit lines and letters of credit are used for OTC trading. Credit lines for better names, letters of credit (aka cash collateral) for lesser names. Correct, EFS and EFP are operational but both can be used in certain (not all) situations to get around the issue that scriabinop23 was...

    Nat Gas Mini

Very small, almost irrelevant. If you search long and hard I'm sure you can find an approximate number but it's so small that it would be a waste of time.

    Nat Gas Mini

NYMEX look-a-likes (mirror images of NYMEX contracts) are very liquid in the OTC market. A lot of shops prefer OTC over NYMEX for numerous reasons i.e. if they trade OTC that they don't have to deal with the cash flow issues related to futures, they simply post a letter of credit with their...

What's to prevent OPEC from manipulating CL?

The OTC market for crude (and all other energy products) is much larger than NYMEX. Your assumption that "spot prices for the entire market are levitated" is incorrect. Basis risk can't be ignored. If OPEC members buy massive amounts of NYMEX front month CL and take delivery where are...

just doubled-down on my NG position

Nat gas doesn't compete with crude oil as a power plant fuel but it does "compete" with refined products i.e. heating oil.

These guys are nothing but thieves and gamblers

That's completely false. They were on the wrong side of the winter/summer spread for the next several years...Their size did increase the amount of blood but their view on the spreads was simply wrong. As an example:

MotherRock energy hedge fund is liquidating

In terms of what? Conrad hasn't ever been fined or banned. Selling puts wasn't their problem, they were on the wrong side of numerous spreads over the past couple months and being on the wrong side of the H/J NG spread the past week was the final bullet. No. It's a long process, will...

    Unleaded - pit vs emNY?

I'd stay away from the mini RBOB until HU is no longer, not enough transparency. RBOB liquidity is slightly better in the OTC market but still far from liquid, most of the big commercials won't be making the transition until the banks and funds improve the liquidity.
