    Buying ITM Puts and Calls

please keep your answers simple and to the point. we need a higher signal to noise ratio lol. this question/thread is useless w/o mentioning a trading plan to use itm calls/puts such as when to enter/exit w/ profit/exit w/ loss/how much to risk/what stocks to trade options on.

    why trade options ?

+1. This is required reading for everyone daytrading the ES with ridic low $500 margins from bucket shop brokers. Imagine someone sets off a dirty bomb in NYC and the ES gaps down 100 points. You just lost $5k against equity of $500. so you OWE your clearing firm $4.5k per car. nice...

    Turtle Trading... Thoughts?

whether specific setups work every single year is not the issue b/c they obviously won't. what is important is that there are always trends every year in some market. even if every equity market is rangebound, what about fx, or commodities or rates? the point is to limit risk on every trade...

Need advice on breakout stop placement

i'm going to assume this isn't a joke (maybe not a good assumption)...there is no way to avoid whipsaws period the end. by definition if you could every trade would be the start of a trend and would result in a profit. whipsaws are a cost of doing business for trend traders. maybe covel wants...

Anyone pulling money out of MF Global?

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-10-31/mf-global-finance-files-for-bankruptcy-protection-in-new-york.html see third paragraph re "missing" money from customers' accounts. everyone repeat the lesson with me: never hold your money at a broker that is leveraged 40-1 on greek debt. if this...

    Expiration Question

adam warner (author of dailyoptionsreport blog which he doesn't update anymore) gave a great example of a company being bought out and the news breaking after 4 pm on expiry fri. long story short some people made a fortune and others lose one b/c they (the longs) were able to exercise until...

Anyone pulling money out of MF Global?

they are. when refco blew up the fx side was no more while the futures side was fine (although the stress of holding a refco futures account was through the rough i'm sure). value add advice: better safe than sorry - wire everything out immediately and then open an account w/ ib who...

Who is really making a living trading options??

+1. the asymmetric return is not to be understated. if you're trading cl and there's an incidient w/ iran/saudi arabia/etc and oil goes up 50% or 100% overnight (yes this could happen) even trading w/ low leverage you are wiped out but if you were long puts you only lost your premium. an...

    Trending Stocks

+1 lol. i was about to type the exact thing when i read the op post. op, so not to just criticize, here's a value add suggestion: realize that there is NO way to determine ahead of time which security (stock, future, fx, beanie babies, etc) will trend and/or trend huge. that's why it's...

    Shorting without borrowing stock

+1 to everything ase1245 said. re the op's latest post that mentioned "rolling over" every 3 days to avoid high borrow costs, IMO there is no way around the high borrow costs otherwise everyone would've done it. like ase1245 said, your options (pun intended) are limited: long puts or short...

    Peplink Dual-Wan Router

+1. great point. IMO you should be fine just buying a xincom and be done with it. although in general commercial grade products are better than retail, this isn't always the case. i've heard stories re csco dual wan routers being pieces of crap wheres a retail competitor costing 10% works...

    Trend Following + Range Trading

some trend followers have incorporated rtm strategies into their funds to smooth out the vol and be more palatable to investors. maybe covel can chime in if he's around.

    How to short money markets

all great suggestions so far esp from above poster. if greece doesn't default what happens? that means germany bailed them out yet again. time to short bunds/long cds.

    Trend Following + Range Trading

my 0.02 USD, you (in general) should stick to trend following OR rtm (reversion to mean). not that you couldn't do both it's just that it's difficult to constantly switch strategies. each has it's advantages (tf - low win rate - high win size vs loss size) and (rtm - the opposite).

    ToS & tastytrade vouchers

call them and ask. it'll save time. you might also ask if tos vouchers are no longer valid since they were bought by tda.

Who is really making a living trading options??

AFAIK etf's (like qqq) do NOT quality for 1256 treatment even though it it based on a broad based index it is not the same as trading ndx or spx. the irs hasn't allowed or disallowed etf's based on a broad based index for 60/40 tax treatment. this trader you mentioned could be hit w/ a huge...

    Commisions for ES

in the spirit of "teach a mean to fish..." i strongly suggest using goog next time. their website is the first result. their commissions are very low (0.59 plus exchange fees so ES is 3.5 rt). http://www.generictrade.com/commissions/

Questions - Buy New Highs, Sell New Lows Strategy

the initial stop would be say 1% (of your equity) from entry (it could be lower if you think that's too high) and you would scale in (in thirds). you can't protect against false breakouts b/c no one knows beforehand which breakout will fail/turn into trend that pays for all the other failed...

Questions - Buy New Highs, Sell New Lows Strategy

this may work. although i haven't backtested it, just looking visually where entries/exits would have been seems to support the idea. basically you use really tight stops, scale in (in thirds) as the trend continues and exit all at once when the trend ends. you can trail stops/move to BE on a...

    Options Brokers

just to save the op and everyone else a lot of time and energy afaik, no broker offers a lower per contract commission (0.60) w/ NO ticket charge than lightspeed. e option is 0.10 per contract however there is a 3 ticket charge. pls correct me if i'm wrong. i'm not trying to single...
