yes - i think so. but holding overnight can be very risky these days. and if one of your stops gets triggered the same day - you would have a daytrade.

michaelday if you have a margin account with less than $25K you can do 3 daytrades within a 5 day period - and buying power will be updated real time - as ib told me few days ago. you will also still have 2:1 margin.

hy vikana, i have exactly the same problem! baron is already working on it i guess - seems to be a bit confusing what the reasons are. my system: win 98 se / ie6.0

nicodemus - if you can trade successfully in markets like these - you should feel happy. it's like everywhere in the world - like always in life - somebody wants your money - gotta accept it.

concerning the margin accounts: you can still open a margin account with $2K - also after august 28th. nobody says that every margin account is a "pattern day trader" account which would require $25K.

p2 - and what about the horrible spreads of those thin stocks?? where do you route your orders?

hy, i would like to know if somebody of you trades nasdaq stocks with an avg daily vol about 1-2M. it seems that these stocks do not move so nervous like the popular heavy traded ones with volumes of 10M and more. what do you think? the spreads on the thinner stocks tend to be pretty wide...

ib told me, that also after sep. 28th stockmargin accounts with less than $25k will still update buying power realtime.

impressive article! these markets are a good argument for day trading instead of any buy and hold stuff - don't you think? i guess the bears will stay for a pretty long time.
