    Hedge Fund TV Show

Bullchit nobody made jack shorting in the 90s. You can't pull in 10000% in six months shorting anyway jackass. Where's your proof that daytrader is #1 beyond his apartment block? You must be the guy himself or his mother.

Traders make money, but here is how some traders make serious money

Naw serious money is 5000% a year. Options/futures are the only conceivable way to get there. Plus you gotta define 'killing' :D :p

    zero sum game?????????????

Inflation? Say it ain't so,, but my house is really WORTH 80% more than what I paid 5 years ago becaues it prints me money like it's 1999. A bottle of coke really is worth 20 times more than the nickel it cost before because it tastes better, man. I hear they got a new formula. Don't worry...

    hedge fund trader vs. daytrader

Exactly it's absurd to compare the two. Many mrop shops will take anybody with a pulse-- taxi drivers, line cooks, and especially city college kids. These guys are 'customers' to the shops. This is wannabe wall street. Hedge funds recruit from the major banks which recruit from...

Starting a Hedge Fund - choosing systems

Haven't been here as long as our buddy pal 'Don' but observing the board troll go to work on these forums is a hoot. I guess a sponsor of ET gets every right to recruit. Suspect the poster who started this thread might be a whale? Me thinks he may be a doofus. Oh yeah that's your cue!

    Total beginner looking for advice

Rule #1 for you newbie: Avoid Internet msg boards and chatrooms. Don't trust anyone else's 'investment' ideas (i.e. daytrading). Stick to your own research and never ever bet on some cheap stock you saw hyped on a msg board, especially a penny. Seriously, stick with buying a couple shares a...

Sure.. can tell which stock and which day just by the price. 399.95? It's like every daytrader and his brother wants to start a hedge fund.. but who would trust their money with that kid (beside his jewish mom)

    5K to 5 BILLION

Yep. Trick is spending a billion in one place and doubling it. You'd have to diversify like any billion$ fund mgr which means diminishing returns. :p

Starting Daytrading Firm in India or China - advice?

Read the Journal article about daytraders blowing up over there during the May selloff. That guy's goal of $10 a day means they're not trading our securities and they're not paying our commissions. :p

How do I run money for a few relatives?

It depends on your trading... if you do high vol long/short or trade exotic stuff then you'd probably want to pool it and probably need to setup an LLP for taxes. If you don't care about the platform or don't need to pool it, the simplest way is have them open the accounts and you manage them...

    Hedge Fund TV Show

DVR'd it and watched it 3 times already. Conclusive proof most of the boutique funds are just daytraders on roids. They filmed it during the May selloff, and one of the 'managers' was playing Google at the open. Unfrickenbelieveable gambling with OPM.

    $8 per 1,000 shares

I know good traders who don't mind paying above those rates but they don't trade huge volume. What's disturbing about the offer is the promise they'll bring it down eventually. I bet they also promised 500-1000 a day in no time. What else did they promise you, kid? How about a 1 in 10...

what has been you "tuition fee" to become successful?

If your trading consists of jumping into XYZ at 10am because you saw it on some msg board or most active list then jumping out at 10:30 after it moves against you 50 cents then you're parents are right. You're gambling and will be back in school once the account goes bust. There's no...

Day traders: How often do you do nothing all day?

It depends, if you're a momo trader then most of the week is spent waiting for those signals or it should be. That's the discipline. :D

Gasoline going up....how to play it?

A related question.. what is a 'normal' markup for the price at the pump? The best price in my neighborhood dropped a nickel last week to 2.45, while the nat'l ave was something like 2.25. But the HU has been stuck at 1.45-55 for almost a month. I know prices are sticky downward...:p just...

Which stocks would you hold for 30 years?

That's right. None. I'd take 10% a trade over 100% a year any time. For such a long timeframe, how do you know where in the cycle your entry is? If you listened to any of these jokers back then, you'd have to wait 30 years just to break even.. > > October 1999: James Glassman, author...
