    Ib Security Vulnerabilities

ahhh the hackers are everywhere, I can't see them, but I know they are there lurking, waiting to get me... watching my every move... waiting to pounce... ;-)

    Tell about your education

Many interesting posts on this thread, and a few not so interesting posts too. At the risk of sounding like a pessimist, which I am not, it seems some people here could use a reminder of some basic life facts. No matter how much money you make, you can't wire the funds to your next life. No...

    Quicken/QuickBooks/Money/TurboTax/TaxCut

I used Money to import trades from my broker as a qif file than I exported to tax software, then I imported that into TaxCut. That worked great for me, but only after spending three days figuring out how to do it ;-)

zed, You don't get it, this forum is all about bitching and complaining. The Romans liked to watch lions rip men apart limb for limb, traders are no different. They are even of the same blood. It is a custom prehistoric in origin. If you want peace and compassion, become a Buddhist. They...

    EasyLanguage resources?

I am thinking of trying Tradestation for a few months, can anyone recommend some sites with EasyLanguage forums, resources, reference guides, whole scripts, script comparisons, etc? I am aware that Tradestation provides some material on their site, after you register, but I am looking for more...

    IB Setting Trailing Stops

It seems to me that the problem could be fixed by having TWS generate a random trailing stop, between 3 and 8 percent. That way there would not be a large pool of stops right a 3%, for example. Of course, the user could modify the number if they wanted to, but this way the users who just use the...

    Nextrend Emini Problems

I think what it is is that one day this weekend the data feed kept ticking forward on the time axis even though there was no data. That "gap" is what is messing up the indicators, overlays, etc. I just emailed them about it.

    going short

I think any trader who is not equally comfortable with holding long and short positions will not survive over the long haul. I always get a laugh looking on the Yahoo boards and seeing the "longs" fighting the "shorts". my opinion, at any rate...

    eminidaytrading ?

andy4: There are many good posts on this thread, read and reread them. Some advice from a newbie to a newbie: !) try paper trading. Be disciplined about it. Don't mentally paper trade! Write down the price that you bought, but only when that is the current price. Don't pretend...

How much will be my maximal loss on a $2600 IB futures account

Vulture, thanks for the reply. From Forbes.com: "Each of the eight Fed meetings in 2001 resulted in a rate cut and on three occasions, policymakers eased credit between regular meetings. The 11 reductions have brought overnight rates down 4.75 percentage points since Jan. 3 last year. " How...

How much will be my maximal loss on a $2600 IB futures account

    >Sean: At least three times in the last 3 1/2 years the nearby ES has rallied 50 pts. without "trading". < Pabst, can you tell us the circumstances of those point jumps? What caused them and what time of day did they happen? I can see how something like that could easily happen during the...

How much will be my maximal loss on a $2600 IB futures account

    a) 2600 is not enough for the initial performance bond for one NQ, you need about 4000 for that. 2600 might be enough for maintanence though. b) as someone pointed out in my thread "emini dangers" just avoid the actual time of the economic release. The market will very quickly factor in the...

    Eye Strain from Trading

someone talked about turning off the lights, Hitman I think, for me it is the opposite. I turn my monitor brightness as low as possible, put a light on right next to the screen, open the shades and turn on the overhead. That totally resolved the eyestrain and headaches for me.

    anyone trading off news?

when I first started trading I traded off news. I didn't have a realtime source so I used prnewswire.com and businesswire.com. I made a few thousand doing that, but to this day I still tremble when I think about some of the close calls I had. Like jumping into a thinly traded, crappy Nasdaq...

    Ameritrade to buy Datek

myoffices, you are forgetting the statistics that show that 80-90 percent of traders chronically lose money. That has been confirmed in numerous surveys. The stock market and the futures markets don't make new money they just transfer it from one account to another. If millions of new people...

    itemized deductions

Tntneo I didn't know that about the rent. Very cool. I will look into it. I agree about keeping good records though. This kind of pushing the envelope is sure to raise eyebrows at the IRS. JPB, don't worry about the self employment tax. I can tell you with 100% certainty that they don't...

I made the MME this year for 2002 and on. I have been giving some thought to things that I could get now and deduct later that might improve my trading, my life, etc. Here is a small list I pulled from a tax booklet for day traders: publications: $860 research: $775 continuing education...
